Technical Artist

Oxide Games is currently seeking a Technical Artist to join our team, working on an original IP with a first party publisher. Qualified individuals will be required to work hands-on to set the benchmark of quality for assets in their area of expertise. The ideal candidate will be organized with excellent communication skills and be able to support both internal and external outsource art resources.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize Oxide’s proprietary game engine and computer language to develop graphic features, programs, images, and animations
- Create and use computer programs to manipulate light, color, texture, shadow, and transparency of thousands of images to create life-like graphics
- Establish the benchmark for quality of art assets
- Increase art output capabilities of game engine
- Develop and document technical processes using modeling programs
- Implement and maintain control systems
- Create and use computer programs using Oxide’s proprietary computer language for the rendering of art
- Develop tools and processes to expedite art production
- Minimize limitations of art generated by game engine
- Support internal and external art resources
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Simulation and Game Design, or a related field
- 5+ years working in games with art and programming
- Expertise in material shaders (HLSL) and Maxscripting
- Experience with art team support of tools, troubleshooting, pipelines and procedures
- Willing and eager to work with a proprietary engine and support its future development
- Expertise in setting up import pipeline/processes for assets from outsource resources
- Proficient with standard industry tools like 3dsMax, Maya, Z-Brush/Mudbox, and Photoshop, with a desire to support and have input into the creation of new systems and tools to help future production
- Continually self-educate in current and cutting-edge technology for 3d art production trends and processes, tools and techniques: 3D modeling, textures, materials/shaders, lighting, etc
- Experienced working with both internal and outsourced art team resources and pipelines
- Create variety of material shaders for game assets
- Integrate dynamic shaders to add variety to large groups of similar models
- Provide systems and tools for our proprietary engine
- Designs and builds tools to take artwork from industry standard packages into engine
- Communicate effectively with Artists and Engineers, and work to bridge communication between the 2.
- Document new tools and updates to existing ones
As a plus:
- Experience with Substance Designer, Substance Painter, and Houdini
- Identify as a gamer and enjoys playing video games
