Job Description

Service Area: Opportunity Academy

Job Title: Teacher (English, Math, Humanities, Special Education and Science)

Reports to: Principal/Academic Director

Supervises: None

Employment Status: Regular Full Time

FLSA Classification: Exempt

 

OPPortunity Academy (OA), the academic center of excellence of OPP is a unique alternative high school in Hartford, CT which uses mastery based progression, high level of student: teacher engagement, student-led learning, and independent projects and subject areas curated with students center. 100% of students have access to and supports from OPP’s wrap around services including (TEB) Thoughts, Emotions, Behaviors which is rooted in Cognitive Behavior Theory, (promotes healthy behavior management skills), barrier reduction, financial capabilities, post-secondary opportunities, and workforce readiness opportunities including service learning projects, internships, and job placement.

JOB PURPOSE: The school teacher is the primary person responsible for delivering a rigorous blended learning academic environment for our youth. One that sets high expectations, data-driven, and effectively blends individualized online curriculum with student-centered project-based learning.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution in any of the following areas K-12 English, Math, History, Science, and Special Education. Masters preferred.

· CT High School teacher certification/license: English, and other subjects a plus.

· Two years of teaching experience preferred with a proven record of high student achievement.
