Entry Level Law Enforcement Officer (Sponsored Recruit)

The sponsored recruit will attend a law enforcement academy that will introduce them to the fundamentals of law enforcement and prepare them to become a deputy sheriff with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. The sponsored recruit will attend classroom lectures on subjects including criminal law, laws of arrest, traffic laws, juvenile law, principles of law enforcement, rules of evidence, rules of search and seizure, patrol theory and methods, and report writing; observe demonstrations on arrest and control methods and the care and use of firearms; participate in physical conditioning and self-defense exercises; vehicle operation skills; and take examinations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a least 21 years of age by the date of graduation
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have a valid class E driver’s license
  • Must be able to work any hours or days as needed (shift work, holidays and weekends).
  • Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • No marijuana usage in the past three years. No usage of other controlled substances in the past ten years.
  • Must have not been convicted of a felony
  • Must have not had a driver’s license suspended more than twice for traffic violations, nonpayment of insurance or traffic fines.
  • Must have not received 3 or more moving traffic violations in a 3 year period.

What to expect throughout the application process:

The process will include but not be limited to

  • Fill out a pre-application (Link to pre-application)
  • Take a Patrol Exam, which consists of the following;
    • Situational Judgement and Human Relations Video Test
    • Written Report Writing Video Based Test
    • Reading Test.
  • Successfully Pass Physical Academy Assessment Test
    • 1.5 mile run in 17 minutes
    • 15 push-ups in 1 minute
    • 25 sit-ups in 1 minute
    • 300-meter sprint in 75 seconds
  • Swim Test
  • Successfully Pass Agency Physical Agility Test (PAT)
  • Background Investigation & Polygraph Exam
  • Interview Board & Conditional Offer
  • Psychological assessment
  • Physical examination
  • Drug screening
