Job Purpose/Summary of Position:
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Specialist is responsible for maintaining the physical aspects of the agency's building, with key responsibilities to include routine maintenance, identifying issues of concern, providing solutions, troubleshooting appliances and building systems, conducting basic repairs, handling preventative maintenance tasks, and ensuring the integrity of interior and exterior premises. This position ensures that OPCD's campus maintains a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for its employees and their activities.

Job Purpose/Summary of Position:
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Specialist is responsible for maintaining the physical aspects of the agency's building, with key responsibilities to include routine maintenance, identifying issues of concern, providing solutions, troubleshooting appliances and building systems, conducting basic repairs, handling preventative maintenance tasks, and ensuring the integrity of interior and exterior premises. This position ensures that OPCD's campus maintains a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for its employees and their activities.
Duties/Essential Functions:
- Responsible for maintenance of building and grounds, including all janitorial duties, removal of trash and litter, painting, cleaning and maintenance of restrooms, and minor physical repairs.
- Reports needs of janitorial supplies for the campus and contributes to assisting with the physical maintenance of the property.
- Responsible for exterior lawn maintenance including plants, bushes, and trees.
- Monitors preventative maintenance on the water well, sewerage treatment plant, diesel generators, heating venting air-conditioning (HVAC) computerized system, vehicle barrier system, vehicle gates, video camera systems, and exterior lighting.
- Monitors electric and water meters and utility property including electrical service panels, water valves, hydrants, pipes, and city sewerage.
- Coordinates movements of vehicles arriving on campus and delivery of items to the loading dock.
- Responsible for the maintenance of facility tools, machines, including lawnmowers and supplies.
- Maintains cleanliness and order of storage/bunking rooms and loading dock receiving room.
- Responsible for purchasing of vending supplies and loading vending machines.
- Interacts with various internal and external vendors or customers to refer/resolve problems associated with assigned work activities; seek customer feedback to prevent reoccurrence of issue in the future
- Performs administrative and record keeping functions including but not limited to keys, electronic access, equipment, and supplies
- Maintains awareness and make use of continuous quality improvement tools
- Performs other duties as required

Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Louisiana or other state Driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Preferred Requirements:
- 2 (two) years related experience or tradesman's license
- Possesses basic PC skills, including use of Microsoft Office applications, internet research/sourcing, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires proficient knowledge of common maintenance trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and machine / equipment repair.
- Requires proficient facilities maintenance & preventative maintenance inspection & troubleshooting skills.
- Physical strength to move furniture and heavy/large awkward objects on campus and assist in movements. Will need to exert physical effort, involving lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, pushing, or pulling of objects
- Must have proficient knowledge, skill, and demonstrated ability to properly use hand tools common to facility repair and maintenance such as ratchet sets, wrenches, screwdrivers, millimeters, etc.
- Requires general/basic knowledge of safety requirements for common maintenance procedures.
- Must have the ability to identify facility/maintenance issues, including the ability to provide validation & sign-off of work performed by contractors (i.e., hands-on validation of functional/working completeness).
- Requires the ability to multitask and follow & execute instructions with efficiency and proficiency in completion of a variety of assigned projects and tasks.
- Requires the ability to drive trucks, and/or automobiles; a clean driving record with valid LA driver's license is required.
- Good communication skills (i.e., speaking, writing, reading, reporting, presenting, etc.) are required. Must be professional and work well with others (internal and external customers) at all levels, including vendors & contract personnel.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment screening to include a fingerprint criminal background check and drug test.
