Functions/Duties of Position
The Doernbecher Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 46 bed level IV, regional referral center, providing care for a patient population of critically ill, convalescing and growing premature and term newborns. Admissions come from our own high-risk perinatal department, as well as transports from other hospitals in the region where specialized care is needed by OHSU's neonatologists, neonatal nurses, surgical and referral specialties, as well as perinatology.
The OHSU Clinical Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities, and patient populations. The Clinical RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of a scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor [Ensemble Model of the Professional RoleTM]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN's engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. The Clinical Nurse exemplifies the principles of a Culture of Safety by committing to a Just Culture, Reporting Culture, Learning Culture, and an Engaged Informed Culture.
The qualifications for this position are the minimum eligibility requirements for an interview. The level of required experience and expertise for each posted position is influenced by the current knowledge and skill of nurses within the department.
- Minimum Requirements
- Current, unencumbered Oregon RN license
- Current BLS
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing for external hires
- BSN preferred for OHSU internal candidates
- Specific Requirements
- 2 years level II/III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience (see the next 2 bullet points for further consideration)
- May consider new graduate RN;preference for immersion in NICU during education. This is per management discretion
- Applicants withoutNICU experience may be considered for the position per management discretion
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification
- Preferred Requirements
- STABLE certification
- Bilingual - English/Spanish
- Specialty Certification - Neonatal CCRN or RNC
