Work Unit Description
The Oregon Rural Practice-based Research Network (ORPRN)was established in 2002 at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. ORPRN is dedicated to improving the health of rural Oregonians through community-engaged dialogue, coaching, education and research. ORPRN facilitates a broad variety of clinical health care research, quality improvement projects, and practice transformation efforts in Oregon.

Functions/Duties of Position
The Research Associate will function as Project Manager for the Smarter CRC and ANTECEDENT studies. Smarter CRC is focused on colorectal cancer screening, and the goal of ANTECEDENT is to enhance alcohol screening, treatment, and intervention.
The Research Associate will have several responsibilities that include:

  • Project implementation and coordination
  • Manage and implement components of study plans, creating standard operating procedures
  • Oversee participation across the team
  • Present progress and interim reports; assist with final reports and manuscripts
  • Travel to clinical practices to oversee project; travel to state and national meetings to represent project
  • Act as primary liaison with external partners
  • Practice recruitment
  • Act as central hub for recruitment
  • Create systems for practice identification and enrollment to update project team to achieve recruitment goals and promote recruitment activities
  • Practice facilitation implementation
  • Oversee practice facilitators involved on the project, monitor protocol fidelity
  • Work with practice facilitators to develop tools and facilitation approaches to be delivered with both projects
  • Data reporting and review
  • Work with team to identify plans for data tracking and management. Work may include database creation, data management, preparing data for analysis, and contributing to analysis
  • Project will collect quantitative and qualitative data. Track collection of quantitative and qualitative data, check data for quality, and review source documentation and field notes
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree with major courses in relevant field and 3 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's Degree with major courses in field of research and 5 years of relevant experience
  • 3 years of experience in research, preferably coordinating research teams on projects emphasizing quality improvement in primary care settings
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Database creation
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a multi-tasking environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPHQ, ACRP, or SoCRA certification
  • Experience with mixed methods
  • Experience in primary care clinical and community settings
  • Knowledge of primary care transformation to achieve the Triple Aim
  • Experience in patient or practice recruitment
  • Previous experience with REDCap, Endnote, and Atlas.ti or other qualitative analysis software
  • Understanding of human subjects protections
