Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Role is based in Farmington Hills, Michigan and would require relocation. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading cost effective processes as well as continuously improving current processes to maintain growth and profitability. During development phases, manufacturing engineers lead in the design of production tools, fixtures, masking techniques, coating techniques, and recipes. Manufacturing Engineer is capable of independently representing engineering on new programs including the understanding of customer requirements, generation of new quotes, development of new coating processes, fixture development, and creation and update to the ERP system. When needed the manufacturing engineer II will research and recommend new production techniques to help increase efficiency of production.

The Manufacturing Engineer reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager as part of the Orchid Detroit engineering team supporting both the production team and quality teams.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Utilizing a knowledge of:

  • Designing fixtures / molds using software such as Auto CAD or SolidWorks
  • Objet30 3D printers for design/development of fixtures and masking molds used in production.
  • cGMP for FDA medical devices is preferred.
  • Application of medical device coatings

Conducts these operations to support manufacturing:

  • Leads New Product Introduction (NPI) Projects and continuous improvement projects related to Hydroxyapatite (HA) coating, Titanium Plasma Spray (TPS) coating, Vacuum Plasma Spray (VPS) coating, washing, and sterile packaging from start to finish to ensure production readiness.
  • Works independently with project management, quality, production, and sales teams on engineering projects related to process improvement and new equipment/process introduction.
  • Subject matter expert in specialty areas critical to Orchid Detroit such as HA and TPS coatings, automated media blasting, laser marking, and 3D printing of fixtures and masking components.
  • Introduces and Implements process improvements for masking, blasting, and HA & TPS coatings to improve quality and/or efficiency. Leads efforts to implement these changes.
  • Owns manufacturing process related to Hydroxyapatite coating including holding fixtures, masking procedures, programming, and coating applications.
  • Creates item masters, routings and bills of materials in the Made to Manage ERP system.
  • Quotes new products as well as customer changes related to HA Coating, fixture design and manufacturing, molding procedures and materials
  • Programming development and troubleshooting using Fanuc and Kawasaki
  • Assist the R&D team in the development of new coating technologies and applications
  • Process / implement engineering change orders (ECO’s)
  • Author work instructions, standard operating procedures, customer requirement sheets and validation protocols / reports for coating processes, blasting processes, laser etch, and kit assembly.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Perform other duties as required or directed by management
  • Lead quality and compliance by complying with all Quality Management Systems (QMS) documentation requirements.
