Key Account Manager

The Key Accounts Manager plays a crucial role in Orchid Essentials by creating and strengthening our relationship with partners and customers. The role will be responsible for leading the team’s effort to obtain market information relevant to the development of category and channel strategies and tactics in designated accounts to drive revenue and account engagement. Aligns with the distributor to execute programs, address issues, or develop process improvements that aid in the successful implementation of the trade marketing strategy. The key account manager will also bring in new business from existing clients or contacts and will develop new relationships with potential clients.


  • Work cross-functionally to align with the internal team; use the information to update Wholesaler

    • Conduct regular calls with Wholesaler

    • Schedule bi-weekly meetings and/or minimum of 2 ride-alongs per month

    • Provide quarterly and annual updates on the progress

  • Develop relationships with chains and Key Customers in the region and build strategic plans to drive revenue and profitability

    • Perform discovery to uncover needs

    • Pull relevant data and analyze

    • Build customized selling stories and present on appropriate opportunities

    • Provide meeting recap to team

    • Build Account Notes to provide direction to RSM/AM’s

  • Assist in coaching, mentoring, and developing a team of Area Managers

    • Ensure regular check-ins with each AM; allow AM to shadow you to gain a better understanding of the sales process

    • Work with AM’s a minimum of 4 days per month

    • Regularly check Wholesale reporting, CRM tools, and other dashboards to track sales and key metrics to assess AM performance

    • Work with Regional Sales Manager to contribute to annual performance reviews

    • Participate in and make recommendations on Succession Candidates

      • Assist in creating specific Position Development Plans for high-potential AM’s; work with them as needed to help them develop skill sets

  • Provide feedback to RSM on merchandising execution; ensure that it is on-strategy

    • Evaluate 5P Conditions at retail and coach accordingly

  • Work with chains and Key Customers to develop customized retail programming; ensure that resources are allocated to the right accounts and tracked fully throughout the timeframe to measure ROI

  • Provide regular and consistent feedback to Executive Team on opportunities, partnerships, or activities in the market that Orchid Essentials should participate in

    • Build a budget and proposal of all activities

  • Complete Annual and Quarterly Business Plans to strategically allocate time and plan WW’s

    • Schedule WW’s a minimum of four weeks in advance with AM’s

  • Assist Area Managers in creating and editing Individual Annual and Quarterly Business Plans

    • Ensure that Quarterly Work plan elements are incorporated into their planning process

    • Assist AM’s in determining which accounts/stores are good, better, best and segment accordingly

    • Assist AM’s in developing initiatives and plans to support increased sales and additional store distribution

  • Assist Leadership team in establishing quarterly KPIs and goals

    • Develop and adapt bonus structure accordingly

  • Work with leadership to create forecasting and revenue modeling to ensure that the company is as profitable as it can be


● 5-10 years of experience in Key Account Management or related experience

● Seasoned sales manager with experience selling to C-Suite or equivalent management in key accounts and large retail chains.

● Cannabis industry experience is preferred but not required

● Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent applicable experience

● Analytical mindset coupled with a strong business acumen

● Self-motivated, detail-oriented, process-oriented, and well-organized

● Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment

● Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.

● Possesses a strong, current portfolio of cannabis industry relationships

● Excellent written and oral communication skills

● Strong working knowledge of CRM systems
