$5,000 Hiring Bonus (prorated by FTE)

Overview
The Staff Accountant works closely with the Finance Director to oversee the accurate and timely recording of all financial information. Ensures accuracy of work produced by department personnel, and provides guidance to staff on the completion of tasks. Has demonstrated knowledge of all areas in the Finance Department and serves as backup when department personnel are out. Provides support to the Finance Director in the completion of internal and external reports, audit preparation and other required financial responsibilities. May provide assistance with payroll functions and back-up for payroll processing.
Responsibilities
Reconcile and post transactions according to generally accepted accounting practices and procedures inclusive of fixed assets, prepaid amortizations, bank accounts and other reconciliations.
Reviews department staff entries, ensuring the accurate and timely recording of financial information inclusive of cash receipts and disbursements, payables and receivables and other financial entries.
Perform and/or review bookkeeping and financial reporting for Rep-Payee and HUD entities.
Ensure the implementation and compliance with internal controls over the agency’s assets and resources.
May provide assistance with payroll functions and back-up for payroll processing.
Cross trains with and provides interim coverage for other functions in the Finance Department.
Assist in the management and maintenance of the financial system including but not limited to testing, participating in updates, monitoring, researching, and troubleshooting.
Maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct at all times.
Qualifications
Associates degree in accounting, finance, or business plus minimum of 3 years progressively responsible financial accounting experience — or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and highly proficient with computer software and MS Excel.
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
Possess business experience sufficient to meet the demands of the position, and computer proficiency is required. Must have strong computer skills, including MS Excel and MS Word.
Must pass state-required background and DMV checks; Candidate must be able to work independently and flexibly, under general supervision.
