Senior Optical Manufacturing Engineer

Minimum 40 hrs/week (Monday – Friday)

Job Summary and Essential Job Duties

The Manufacturing Engineer position is responsible for developing and improving manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. This hands-on role works on manufacturing and measuring precision optics and contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Through on the Job Training and utilization of prior experience, the Manufacturing Engineer will:

  • Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; research, design, modify, and test manufacturing methods and equipment;
  • Review customer drawings and requirements for manufacturability and collaborate with customer and internal resources to ensure desired performance can be achieved;
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; test finished-product and process capabilities; establish standards; confirm manufacturing processes;
  • Complete design and development projects by training and guiding technicians;
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; review professional publications; establish personal networks; participate in professional societies;
  • Perform other duties as outlined by the Engineering Manager.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or Applied Science
  • Minimum 4 years engineering experience in precision optics manufacturing

Skills and Specifications:

  • Strong knowledge of optical manufacturing processes, including grinding, polishing and/or deterministic finishing
  • Hands on experience with optical and mechanical measurement systems
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Possess good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
  • Enthusiastic, cooperative and positive behavior

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.
  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

Work Environment:

  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud frequencies.
  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.
  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
  • May require area specific safety training
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes
