Operations Technical Support Specialist
Location: Mt. Clemens, MI
Available Shifts: Afternoons (1 pm - 9 pm) and Nights (9 pm - 5 am)
Compensation: $20.00 + Sick Days + Benefits (Plus $0.88 / hour shift bonus!)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand the hazards inherent to the process and area, adhere to all safety policies
- Safely load, test, filter and transport small batch materials in a lab environment
- Accurately run and record wet properties (wet color, pH & viscosity) and film build
- Calculate necessary pH & viscosity adjustments for production batches
- Wet color piloting using wet color technology for distressed batches
- Spray production batches for color, and collect color data
- Interpret and communicate test/color/spray out results
- Load and spray pilot work
- Adjust production & pilot batches for color by following the best practice process
- Maintain color vectors
- Create CCD dry plate standard
- Determine OTF status when KATs are in spec
- Assist Chemists with customers requested color direction
- Assist Chemists with formula-centering activities using Fit for Real Time Release (RTR) reporting and technology
- Assist in problem-solving of customer and production issues using appropriate methodology (i.e. 8D, 5Y)
- Create rework plans using re-work procedure and wet color technology
- Keep test specification and test methods up-to-date, develop new specifications and methods as required
- Maintain, repair and operate a variety of conventional and electrostatic application equipment
- Maintain equipment PMC
- Safely handle, categorize and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis
- Manage lab supplies
- Set up, spray and evaluate Tank Wagon and Sub-Material Crater checks
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to handle multiple tasks under strict time constraints
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with coworkers and Management in Operations, R&D and Marketing functions in a team environment
- Familiarity with manufacturing process
- Knowledge in basic color science
- Experience in operating color instrumentation such as X-Rite, ByK-Mac, ByK-MacI, AxCS
- Experience in running and recording test results using computer-based system TipsRx, TipsQA, Vector selector and SAP-R3
- Proficient in computer-based programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Willingness to train & develop other technicians
- Flexibility in work hours required to meet business needs; included weekend overtime
- Perform all work in a safe manner and in accordance to all lab and plant safety regulations
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE:
- HS Diploma Required, Degree Preferred
- Ideal candidate will have at least 2-3 years of experience in the chemical industry and experience in coatings is highly preferred
- Candidate must be proficient in with MS Office
