The Controller is responsible for the direct supervision of Accounting Department personnel, ensuring the integrity of CRM financial records, and the monitoring, analysis and/or reporting on key financial measurements. The position also serves as a backup for the Chief Financial Officer in that individual's absence, and a liaison to other operating departments for finance-related data, policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Accounting Department personnel
  • Ensure accurate posting and presentation of financial data
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and analyze monthly variances
  • Review & reconcile activity between Development, Accounting and Bank applications
  • Oversee fixed asset systems/recordkeeping (additions, deletions, depreciation, GL's)
  • Assist external auditors with annual financials and Form 990 preparation

Other Responsibilities:

Primary:
  • ABC Grant report (prepare & process)
  • Accounts receivable and payable reconciliations
  • Allocation GL entries (maintain & manage)
  • Bank account reconciliations
  • Budget variance reports (prepare, review with management)
  • Financial internal controls, policies & procedures (ensure compliance)
  • Form 941 reconciliation to CRM records (quarterly)
  • GL activity review (income, expense, assets, liabilities)
  • GL file maintenance (open, delete, update)
  • Gift-in-kind (GIK) measurement and reporting (oversight, direction)
  • Inventory counting and valuation (annual)
  • Month-end journal entries (prepare & post)
  • Project information (review, adjust, distribute)
  • Restricted fund expenditures (process adjustments)

Secondary/As Needed:
  • Accounts payable (review, posting, check printing)
  • Accounts payable (vendor maintenance)
  • Bank deposits (process)
  • Bank Positive Pay (setup, item handling)
  • Board financial reports (prepare, review with management)
  • Certificate of insurance requests
  • Employment security reports (prepare & process)
  • Endowment recordkeeping (verification of Development data)
  • Insurance updating for CRM drivers
  • Payroll (PR-related expense spreadsheets)
  • Sales tax reporting
  • Stock gift valuation
  • USDA report (prepare and process)
  • Workers compensation reports/audits
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience & Education:
  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting with a minimum of seven years of experience in finance/accounting
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles highly preferred, especially with Sage Intacct and Bill.com applications
  • Extensive experience with general ledger, financial reporting, accounts receivable and payable, fixed assets and compensation accounting
  • CPA designation required

Skills:
  • Multi-tasking and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Project deadline management
  • Working knowledge of automated accounting systems and subsidiary applications, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, tax reporting, and other financial reports used in financial analysis, standard bookkeeping practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, OneDrive, Teams)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
