· Uses tape measure and various measuring tools to accurately mark work pieces to specifications.· Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal. · Identify and gather the necessary tools and parts for job. · Receive detailed instructions verbally or through blueprints or process sheets. · Operate MIG, stick and plasma cutting torch to fabricate specific pieces for industrial machine sub-assembly. · Connects regulator valves and hoses to fuel gas cylinders and welding torch. · Turns regulator valves to activate flow of gases, lights torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure, to obtain desired flame. · Holds torch at proper angle to metal and guides along weld joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weld. · Examines weld for bead size and other specifications. · Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts. · Applies flux to work piece instead of filler rod. · Preheats work piece in furnace or with torch. · Lays out, positions, and tack welds work pieces. · Constructs and fastens various parts of industrial machine equipment to specification. · Welds along vertical or overhead weld lines. · Assemble, troubleshoot, weld, inspect and test to ensure proper weld placement and quality. · Will complete task in accordance with engineering, quality and production standards. · Scarfs or grooves weld prior to applying filler metal. · Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter. · Cleans or degreases parts. Mathematical Skills · Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability · Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. · Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
