Chief Medical Officer

Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is hiring a Chief Medical Officer. Our CMO ensures the delivery of high quality, integrated, patient centered and comprehensive primary care. The CMO is responsible for assuring the quality of clinical services provided including medical, behavioral health, laboratory, radiology, and optometry. The CMO provides comprehensive ambulatory medical services to patients and delivers medical services to all age groups, with a variety of health care needs. The CMO serves on the executive team. This position is directly involved in the strategic planning of the clinic, as well as our accreditation processes.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides comprehensive ambulatory medical services for the purpose of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, in conjunction with other physicians and staff members in the Medical Department
  • Examines patients for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders. Determines nature and extent of injury or disorder, referring to diagnostic images and lab test
  • Prescribes medication and recommends dietary and activity program, as indicated by the diagnosis. Refers patient to medical specialist when indicated
  • Assists the CEO in developing and implementing programs relevant to providing health care for Native Americans served by the clinic
  • Assures that patient care delivered meets Clinic mission, philosophy, policies, accepted medical standards and standard of regulatory agencies
  • Supervises the medical staff, including employees in medical, nursing, lab, radiology, dental, optometry and behavioral health. Clinical supervision of PA’s and NP’s, to include direct supervision of various anesthesia administration
  • Notifies licensing and/or disciplinary bodies or other appropriate authorities, including the NPDB, when a health care professional’s privileges are suspended or terminated, as required by state or federal law and regulations
  • Serves as Chairman of the Medical Staff Committee; calls, presides at, and is responsible for the agenda of all general meetings of the medical staff
  • Directs credentialing and privileging activities for the clinic; assures strict adherence to the Medical Staff Bylaws regarding credentials and privileges
  • Reviews, update and maintains compliance with all aspects of the Medical Bylaws
  • Promotes medical staff retention and actively recruits qualified candidates during periods of vacancy
  • Maintains licensure and appropriate certifications
  • Refers patients to appropriate Indian Health Service or contract medical care facilities as warranted. Participates in relevant in-service education programs for all categories of health professionals at the clinic
  • Adheres to Personnel Policies and Procedures, quality assurance and GPRA measures.
  • Reviews, updates and maintain policies and procedures relating to departments
  • Oversees Peer Review Process
  • Precepts medical students

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice in the State of Oklahoma
  • Must be Board Certified or Board eligible for certification
  • Must hold a degree of MD or DO from an accredited college or university approved by the Council of Education of the respective professional association. Must have documentation of completion of residency in respective field from accredited residency program
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in an outpatient and/or ambulatory clinic setting
  • Strongly prefer 5 years of Supervisory/Administrative experience in a clinical setting
