Job Description

Oil Change International is seeking a Senior Campaigner and strategist to help develop campaigns and support partners to pressure the Japanese government, Asian Development Bank and other targets to stop financing fossil fuels and to shift investment towards renewable energy.

The financing and buildout of new gas infrastructure in Asia poses one of the greatest challenges to averting the worst impacts of the climate crisis. Japanese public and private institutions, along with the Asian Development Bank, are pouring billions of dollars into the buildout of new gas power plants and import terminals in the region at a time when we should be ramping down fossil fuel use. Emissions from these projects threaten to take the world well beyond the Paris climate limits of 1.5°C of global warming.

Social movements and NGOs in countries across Asia are building campaigns to stop the development of new gas infrastructure projects. Partnering with civil society in key countries to develop high-profile gas infrastructure campaigns will be critical to pressure these institutions to stop financing gas projects. We are looking for an experienced strategist and campaigner to collaborate with partners to increase the profile of these campaigns internationally, build strong pressure on Japan and the ADB and help amplify the narrative that gas is dirty, expensive and undermines development. This campaigner will also help provide information and resources to support our partners.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to campaign successfully on climate, environmental and social justice issues: identifying strategic opportunities, engaging in diverse coalitions, using creative tactics, and inspiring others to join the effort. The Senior Campaigner will develop and execute effective advocacy and communications strategies at an international level in close coordination with partner organizations and our Asia program staff. If you are passionate about climate justice, adept in engaging with coalitions and partners, and have experience coordinating complex international campaigns, then this is the role for you!

Title: Senior Campaigner, Asia Program
Reports to: Asia Program Manager
Salary: Generous salary in line with experience. Initial one year contract with intention for long term renewal.
