Geoscience Data Associate - Estimated 12 Month Contract


The selected candidate will be assisting in data entry of files and raw data into iPoint system of record for core sampled or wellbore data types (Core, Geochemistry, etc.). Many of these files require manual clean up and quality control (QC) before and/or after they can be loaded properly, thus the candidate will need to understand well header information and how to go about cleaning up associated metadata (API numbers, datums, and units.) The job will require an understanding of wellbore data types such as core descriptions, thin section imagery, SEM imagery, etc. Required will be the ability to create support documentation and end user-focused documentation for internally developed processes and software applications.

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity of common geoscience interpretation platforms (Ikon’s iPoint, IHS Kingdom, IHS Petra, EasyCopy’s EasyCore, Zeiss AxioScan reader, etc.)
  • Familiarity of quality assurance methodologies in the software development process (able to assist in a root cause analysis of reasons for application crashes)
  • Programming background using excel VBA, or .NET framework preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with master data management concepts
  • Ability to assist in training courses

Possible candidates:

  • GIS professionals, geoscience technologists, reservoir technologists, data management professionals / data managers
  • Ideal candidates would have worked in the oil and gas industry with exposure to core description and well bore data

Skills/Experience background:

  • 2+ years' experience in a technologist, analytics, or data management-type role
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Understanding of core sample analysis process in upstream oil and gas business
  • Understanding of well coring and the associated file types (Core and Sidewall Routine Core Analysis, Spectral Gamma, Crushed Rock Analysis, Petrography)
  • Experience with the SQL language for querying data, including using database querying platforms such as
    • Toad for Oracle platform
    • SQL Server Management Studio
    • Snowflake
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel
  • Ability to adjust priorities and focus based on urgency as customer demand changes

Experience or exposure to Work Item tracking platforms such as JIRA or Azure DevOps to assist in the testing phase of the software development lifecycle
