Role Description

Oak Street Health seeks a health policy focussed government affairs professional to join its advocacy team in Washington, DC. This role will serve as a representative for the company and encompass both congressional and regulatory advocacy. While primarily federally focussed, on occasion and depending on organizational needs, the role will also include state and local government affairs work.

Core Responsibilities

Oak Street Health is scaling quickly and moves fast. Examples of activities in which this role will engage include:

  • Introducing our organization to congressional staff
  • Providing counsel to the head of government affairs regarding CMS regulatory developments and machinations on Capitol Hill
  • Providing media and public relations advice
  • Traveling to Oak Street Health centers in one of the 21 states in which we operate to lead a tour for an elected or appointed official
  • Interacting with and ensuring Oak Street Health's agenda is infused into the advocacy activities of our trade/member associations and consultants
  • Draft, revise and/or edit all manner of advocacy materials including:
    • Health policy thought leadership pieces
    • Letters to policy makers
    • Slide decks
    • Briefing materials for decisionmaker engagement opportunities
    • Agendas for meetings with Oak Street Health consultants
    • Strategic plans
  • Providing subject matter expertise regarding both the big picture and specific details of relevant government programs

What We're Looking For

  • A motivated professional with health policy advocacy experience on Capitol Hill, at a regulatory agency or a trade/member association.
  • A person who worked for a Member of Congress that serves - or previously served - on any of the Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce, Finance or HELP Committees
  • Specific knowledge of the Medicare, value-based health policy and CMMI model landscape.
  • An individual with strategic acumen and top notch writing abilities
  • An ability to ask for what is needed from colleagues and coordinate internally in order to complete polished written, oral or external professional advocacy materials

As a rapidly growing national company, the successful person in this role will be comfortable with both ambiguity and nuance but also sharing your well-thought out recommendations. This position is remote, but should be based in the Washington, DC metro area with easy ability to be downtown when necessary. Travel to Oak Street Health centers across the nation and our headquarters in Chicago will be needed on occasion and encompass about 20% of the role.
