Senior Staff Accountant

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Senior Staff Accountant will support the Finance department by performing daily accounting functions, in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, to meet the organization’s accounting, auditing and reporting requirements. This position will coordinate the month end close process and communicate with variance departments regarding their financial performance such as actual to budget comparisons, expense analysis, budget development, and tracking key metric data to improve the financial health of the organization. This position will report directly to the Director of Finance.

CRITICAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS AND WORKFLOW INTERDEPENDENCIES

Works closely with all members of the Finance Team and other departments within the subsidiaries of Oak Hill.

                                               TARGET OUTCOMES/MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  1. Performs month end close functions including preparing journal entries, trend analysis and internal financial reports.
  2. Oversees record retention management including the filing and retrieval of documents.
  3. Ensures compliance with grant and governmental contract reporting
  4. Works closely with internal departments to review actual vs budget reports and the annual budgeting process.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements including the analysis of financial data and trends in comparison to budget.  
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports on financial performance of various areas of the organization.
  • Develops management information reports and dashboards
  • Assists in the annual budgeting and planning process.
  • Liaisons with other departments; develops an awareness of and addresses issues of concern to promote communication, clarification and mutual understanding of the way in which the functions of each department fit into the financial system of the organization; to promote the most effective operation of the system.  This will entail attending other department leadership meetings as applicable.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
  • Demonstrates a high-level of collaboration and communication within the organizations management team and business partners to ensure operational alignment.
  • Provides ad-hoc financial and operational analysis
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, and at least 2-3 years of progressively responsible experience, including GAAP, financial recording and reporting. Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite and experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge skills strongly preferred, along with non-profit experience (DDS, DMHAS, DCF, DSS). Knowledge of fundamental accounting policies and procedures.  Analytical and key metric tracking skills, written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a broad range of individuals, and excellent problem-solving skills are critical.
