We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Director of Operations to join a small, talented team of professionals in a beautiful manufacturing facility in Oxnard. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated operations leadership experience, bringing a fresh set of eyes to quickly identify and recommend solutions for improvement opportunities/low hanging fruit. The Director of Operations will also naturally roll up their sleeves to jump in where needed, supporting and mentoring staff while maintaining and building upon a culture of trust and teamwork.

Position Summary

The Director of Operations will proactively support the Plant Manager in optimizing systems and protocols to ensure consistent production of high-quality products in an efficient manner. The primary objective of this role is to supervise and oversee all aspects of plant operations, including production, equipment maintenance, procurement, receiving, and shipping, with a focus on cost reduction and quality enhancement. The position reports directly to the Plant Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and direct optimum day-to-day plant operations to produce quality products, consistently. Ensure rigor and consistency in planning, scheduling, procurement, and reporting.
  • Responsible for achieving plant production goals while setting the highest standards in product quality, cost, and customer satisfaction.
  • Implement aligned strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus. Assist in the identification, planning, justification, and implementation of capital projects.
  • Develop systems and processes that optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets. Create and maintain an operating budget; manage and report all aspects of facility operation to the budget.
  • Ensure safe operation of the facility. Set safety standards, train associates, and meet safety requirements for reporting.
  • Knowledge of and follow GMP requirements per FDA/CFR 111 guidelines.
  • Identify operating bottlenecks and constraints and work to manage them and ideally eliminate them. Ensure cross-training is in place to provide maximum flexibility in scheduling and the ability to respond to customer needs.
  • Maintain a culture of trust in the team. Develop a well-trained and motivated staff by fostering teamwork and accountability to each other, the mission and to the company.
  • Set and maintain a cost-effective yet resilient organizational structure in the operations team. Direct, motivate and support managers to ensure successful operation.
  • Proactively manage preventive maintenance program for all equipment in the facility.
  • Typical work hours (onsite) are 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years in a key leadership/management role at a manufacturing facility for a small to mid-sized company.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in operations management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated strong management and leadership skills, team building and mentoring.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in manufacturing, preferably in dietary supplements
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and presentations, specifically with Microsoft Office Products (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, Power Point).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, planning and project organizational skills, with the
    ability to balance production and maintenance needs swiftly.
  • Sharp analytical and decision-making skills, self-motivated, results-driven, and ability to work cross-functionally. Loves a challenge and solving problems collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with industry standard equipment, including set-up, operation, and maintenance.
  • Works and leads by example, ability to positively influence and motivate others.
  • Passion/keen interest in health and wellness.
  • Reliably commute (or planning to relocate), preferability living within 45 minutes of facility.
