Job Description

We are looking for a hiring expert to expand our team of Financial Advisors with top talent in the market. You’ll have the unique opportunity to shape the future of our firm by identifying and attracting up-and-coming insurance professionals that are changing careers or straight off the college campus.

The Talent Acquisition Specialist/Employee seeker is responsible for helping to lead all employee-seeking efforts of the Santa Monica district office. The process of sourcing and selecting Financial Representatives is conducted and continuously improved by this individual. Their primary responsibility is to build high-level quality relationships in the office and community and promote the Northwestern Mutual career, generate referrals and online sources, and develop centers of influence (COIs). This individual plays a key role in creating and spearheading the employee-seeking plan and is a key leader in our office.


$50,000 - $60,000 yearly

  • Process and evaluate all job applications and vet the most qualified candidates for further consideration
  • Write company job postings, making sure that they are readily available on public job boards as well as for current employees
  • Develop an effective, agency-wide hiring process that will consistently attract top talent
  • Set up interviews with promising candidates and additional skills testing if necessary
  • Communicate all offers of employment and denials to job candidates in a timely and professional manner


  • Build and develop effective referral sources with existing Financial Representatives and staff
  • Develop productive centers of influence (COIs)
  • Create and execute lead strategies from a variety of online sources (job boards, career fairs, social media, etc.)
  • Execute an office recruiting plan to reach activity targets and full-time contract goals
  • Actively participate in community clubs and organizations to promote and brand Northwestern Mutual
  • Promote the benefits of office growth and recruiting successes within the office
  • Develop relationships with other Northwestern Mutual recruiters to share leads and best practices


  • Become knowledgeable on regarding all aspects of the Financial Representative career
  • Review resumes and schedules initial interviews
  • Oversee recruiting process, including screening candidates, conducting initial interviews, administering selection tools, and guiding candidates through the selection process
  • Maintain integrity and consistency of the selection process
  • Effectively communicate with candidates
  • Manage the transition of candidates offered a contract with the district office, including the Contract, Licensing, and Registration process, as well as training and development
  • Assist in any pre-contract training to be done by the candidate


  • Build, audit, and refine the selection process as needed
  • Guide leadership team in developing specific recruiting strategies and activities necessary to reach recruiting goals
  • Monitor and report on activity targets and actual performance of recruiters and leadership team members
  • Participate in company and industry training programs and work to improve the recruiting and selection skills of the entire leadership team
  • Direct and supervise the recruiting activities of any other Recruiters and Recruiting Interns on the team
  • Create and execute a professional development plan built with input and guidance from the Managing Partner, Managing Director, or Chief Development Officer


  • Analyze recruiting ratios to identify inefficiencies in the selection process; establish and implement improvements
  • Utilize home office-supported software to maintain the candidate database and accurate records of prospects to ensure the efficiency of the selection process
  • Prepare activity/results for leadership team meetings and coordinate regular meetings to review, assess, and establish actions based on the data

  • Must be able to draft and develop compelling, concise job descriptions
  • Interviewing skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills are needed for this role
  • Over 3 years of recruiting industry experience, preferably 5 years
  • Excellent networking skills and the ability to attract top talent during the recruiting process

  • Bachelor’s degree highly preferred
  • 3+ years of professional experience, preferably in sales, recruiting, or related field; experience in the financial services or related industry is a plus
  • Strong communication skills are required with the ability to build rapport and influence others
  • Experience with prospecting; generating leads via phone or face-to-face interactions preferred
  • Strong personal network and/or community involvement to leverage from a recruiting perspective
