JOB SUMMARY

The Controller will support the CFO in the plan and direction of the financial operations of the company. This role is responsible for producing accurate financial statements, supporting the outside CPA firm with tax returns and reporting, compliance reporting as needed, treasury and other management reports. The Controller will work closely with the CFO and senior leadership to aid in the development of priorities through financial management, budgeting and accounting, all while in compliance of State and Federal Laws.

Northwest operates on a 24/7/365 basis; an individual is required to be responsive and available days, nights, weekends and holidays as business needs dictate. Schedule flexibility with and without advance notice is required. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Manage functions of the accounting department including accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and treasury management.
  • Maintain the accounting system and general ledger including month end close process
  • Assist the CFO and Financial Analyst with various financial analysis matters, budgeting, cash projections, cost accounting, and inventory management. 
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for multiple entities in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. 
  • Evaluate, design, implement, and monitor internal financial controls, accounting processes and policies for efficiency, cost effectiveness, and accuracy.
  • Implement consistent and efficient accounting policies, practices, and procedures the company, upholding Federal, State, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation.
  • Support the management of banking relationships, debt and bank covenants.
  • Prepare quarterly/annual financial reports in collaboration with company’s external accountant for tax reporting. 
  • Define, benchmark, and implement operational best practices.
  • Oversee regular compliance reporting including Federal, State and Local tax filings, reporting and tax returns.
  • Develop, implement and maintain department operational standards which include but is not limited to: work, workflow, client service, task assignments, policies, processes and procedures.
  • Recruit and retain respective team members which includes but is not limited to the following: job description reviews/updates, resume reviews/screen, scheduling and conducting interviews, hiring decisions, etc. 
  • Administers employment actions, provides coaching and guidance to staff and promotes staff training and development.  Ensures staff is properly trained and adheres to SOP’s. 
  • Communicates with other related departments to coordinate work and resolve issues as needed.
  • Provide effective guidance and direction to teams while creating an inclusive environment.
  • Manages team health and safety activities.   Collaborates with EHS Specialist on safety program, reports injuries and accidents and ensure ongoing Employee health and safety.
  • Review, update and approve team time cards within designated payroll deadlines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSE 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required.  
  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Professional accounting certification, including CPA, CMA, CGA, or, CA is a plus.
  • Active and valid US State-Issued Driver’s License with acceptable motor vehicle record as defined and approved by NWP-NWL vehicle insurance carrier. 

 EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of experience required:
    1. Manager level progressive accounting, finance and budgeting which includes AP, AR, audit, tax, GL, and financial reporting across multiple entities and states, including GAAP.
    2. Supervisory role directly managing a team in a fast-paced environment.
    3. High demand, fast-paced, exceptional client operations environment providing and understanding company services, and policies across multiple states. 
    4. Development and management of operational standards which includes but is not limited to: work, workflow, task assignments, policies, processes and procedures.
  • Experience with Concur, QuickBooks and/or NetSuite is a plus.
  • Laboratory and/or healthcare environment experience is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting.

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers/keyboards/mice, printers, phones, mobile devices, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc. The noise level in the office work environment varies from moderate to loud.    

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
