In the Mission Systems sector, you'll join our experts in developing systems that keep our world safe. We are looking for a Software Manager to lead a team of talented software engineers and ensure quality engineering support to programs, IRADs and new business pursuits. The Software Manager will be working alongside fellow software engineering professionals, as we continue to develop and improve the software products for our customers. The position supports E&S goals for providing people, processes and tools to meet the current and future needs of the programs and technologies within the sector portfolio. This role will help foster the establishment and maintenance of a world class Software and Digital Technologies organization in Orlando, FL.
The selected candidate will provide functional leadership to the team in a strong matrix organization, collaborating with peers across the organization. The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. He/she will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must.
The successful Software Engineering Manager 1 will:
Provide technical support for programs (~80%) and provide functional direction to a team of software engineers (~20%). Work closely with them to ensure they have what they need, remove impediments and enable them to meet commitments.
Provide staff support for goal planning, performance reviews, training and general employee development. Build, grow and mentor the team.
Provide technical leadership and guidance by engaging with the team in a daily collaborative style and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Support Annual engagement survey coordination

Support Functional Management initiatives
Increase engineering competencies through strategic hiring and employee skills development
Assist with staff workload forecast preparation
Identifying and implementing new or improved tools and processed to increase team efficiency
Support team by helping provide necessary tools and equipment in order to do their assigned job

Bachelors of Science in Engineering, Computer Science or other STEM discipline with 7 years of relevant experience in engineering development projects or Master's degree with 5 years of relevant experience in engineering development projects
Software development experience in C/C , Java, scripting and/or web-based technologies in Linux and/or Windows environment
Strong experience in the design, implementation and delivery of sophisticated software systems throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.
Previous experience in people and technical leadership roles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated proficiency in computer use including typical office applications; working familiarity with standard modern engineering development tools and processes
Experience with Configuration Management tools such as GIT
Demonstrated collaboration across functional groups
US Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
Active Secret Clearance
Master of Science in Engineering or other STEM discipline
Software development experience in C and X-Windows/Motif on Solaris
Experience with Change Control Board and Software Configuration Control Board activities.
Program management experience on a software development program
Experience leading software development teams using Agile or waterfall process and continuous integration / continuous deployment processes and tools
Prior IPT or Functional Management experience
Business development and/or proposal experience
Experience managing staff assignments across multiple concurrent projects
Experience leading a team in the Engineering department of a matrix organization
