Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector, Marine Systems in Sunnyvale, CA has an immediate opening for a Director 2, Manufacturing Operations. The Sunnyvale Manufacturing Operations Director leads the 500 -person Sunnyvale Integrated Manufacturing Operations organization. The Director is responsible for manufacturing and testing of extremely complex Propulsion and Power Generation Systems and Missile Launching Systems within cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
The Director is also responsible for operations support organizations comprised of manufacturing engineering, planning and scheduling, production control, inventory management, transportation, training and compliance. This also encompasses Material Requirements Planning (MRP) 1 and MRP 2 activities on all major programs.

Responsible for the organizational oversight and building of large welded fabrications, precision large and small machining and assembly of intricate turbine, gear assemblies launching and missile launching systems. Accountable for the manufacturing processes associated with welding, machining, gear grinding and complete system testing utilizing multiple design disclosure documents, manufacturing instructions and procedures are necessary for execution. Assurance of associated customer requirements, controls, and metrics that must be compliant with end item deliverables.
Financial management including knowledge and understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM), rates and budgets and associated overhead budgets to support manufacturing activities is a key responsibility as well as the planning and execution of strategic funds for capital equipment and machinery, as well as manufacturing technical activities.
Close collaboration with all of the disciplines within the Manufacturing organization to ensure process controls and process execution are in place to meet stringent quality requirements flowed down from our customers.
Interface within the Operations Program Management Team (OPM's) and Project Management Office (PMO's) in the development of manufacturing schedules and product budgets that support the site Annual Operating Plan (AOP).
Works closely with the functional organizations (including Design Engineering, Quality and Mission Excellence, Global Supply Chain, Business Management, Human Resources) across the organization and site as necessary to achieve desired results and outcomes.
The Director will be responsible for recruiting & mentoring future leaders, directing training & skill development initiatives and promoting Engagement & Inclusion activities.
Drives operational efficiency through the elements of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale (Engagement) (SQDCM).
The position is optimally served by an engaging leadership style by fostering a high degree of teamwork and collaboration with MS Operations & Manufacturing, the local site functional organizations as well as with the program/division leadership.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or related is required. Engineering is preferred.
12 years of progressive leadership experience successfully managing large manufacturing organizations in a highly regulated industry. Aerospace or defense company experience is highly preferred.
Experience with represented (union) workforces is required.
5 years of experience leading Directors and/or Managers with large scopes of responsibility.
Understanding and experience of entire product life cycle from design, through manufacture, deployment and maintenance.
Leadership of manufacturing processes, planning, and ability to execute with sense of urgency
