College Students Looking for Summer Work

The North Shore Water Reclamation District is currently trying to fill a few summer help positions.


The window in which individuals chosen for these positions can work is May 1st until August 31st. Since, historically, these positions have been filled by individuals in high school or college, the District realizes the need for people in this position to possibly not work the entire month of August. The District provides this flexibility.


Working hours are 6:30am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. Starting pay is $11/hour.

There are a two openings in the District’s Water Reclamation Facilitiy in Highland Park, one opening in the District's Waukegan facility, and three openings in the District's Gurnee facility. The positions will be filled ‘first come first served’. The two openings in Highland Park will be filled first. Assigned tasks may include cleaning, painting, weed whacking, lawn mowing with a push mower, hosing and scrubbing weirs/troughs, light landscaping, exercising valves and gates, assisting other employees and similar duties.

The North Shore Water Reclamation District (NSWRD) is a municipal body which was organized in 1914 under the North Shore Sanitary District Act of 1911. The NSWRD owns and operates more than 100 miles of intercepting sewer lines and 10 pumping stations which collect and convey wastewater from local sewer systems to Water Reclamation Facilities (WRFs) in Gurnee, Waukegan, and Highland Park, Illinois. The District's mission is to defend and preserve our natural resources and it is dedicated to the beneficial reuse of our water resources. For over a century, the NSWRD has achieved an outstanding record of protecting the environment, especially Lake Michigan, due to both consistently upgrading its infrastructure and the diligence of the clean water professionals who work for the District.
