GP/SKP Operations Supervisor

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for managing the production operations activities associated with the Grind and Polish lines and Free Standing Skin Pass Mill to assure the highest level of productivity and quality within internal scheduling requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manages the G/P's and SKP Mill at NAS. Trains, leads and motivates subordinates to optimize man/machine interface to continuously improve the quality and productivity of the operating units and meet customer demands of Quality and on-time delivery. Sets productivity goals and standards to align work force to meet/exceed requirements. Schedules employees (all shifts) to meet operating and customer requirements.
- Coordinates and collaborates with the Supervisors-A/P Lines, Operations Manager, Line Operators, Maintenance, Technical, etc. in the various activities necessary to schedule, process, expedite and transfer in-process material at proper efficiency and minimum cost. Monitors flow of material through G/P's and SKP Mill areas to eliminate delays on equipment, waiting on coils for delivery or to be removed from units.
- Coordinates and collaborates with Maintenance on planned outages, preventive maintenance, special projects, etc. for G/P's and SKP mill to prevent delays during operating hours, eliminate bottlenecks and improve quality of product as it relates to maintenance of equipment.
- Interacts with the Technical Department to insure proper standards and procedures are followed on all units in order to obtain the proper metallurgical properties and quality of steel in process.
- Manages unit costs for G/P's and SKP Mill to effectively meet or exceed financial targets. Participates in goal setting; constantly seeks out areas for continuous improvement; implements changes or makes recommendations to management.
- Requires employee's conformance to establish safety and housekeeping rules and procedures in order to maintain a safe and clean working environment, prevent accidents and optimize productivity, quality and employee morale. Instructs employees in job requirements, safety practices, housekeeping rules etc.Conducts safety meeting, accident/incident investigations, inspections, maintains records, etc. Corrects unsafe conditions, procedures, or makes recommendations to management to eliminate future safety problems.
- Supervises all operating unit employees. Communicates company rules and practices, requires subordinates' conformance and application to established company rules and practices with regard to attendance, performance, training, safety and the like. Investigates, settles and/or refers employee complaints to the Cold mill Operations Manager as required.
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels for G/P Lines and SKP Mill consumables to insure uninterrupted operations. Participates in consumables) vendor selection, bidding, ordering parameters). Enters purchase orders.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Other duties as assigned.
- Participation in continuous improvement programs.
- Reports to and is accountable to the Cold Mill Operations Manager.
- Has line authority over all employees assigned to the Grind and Polish lines and SKP Mill Area. Reviews performances of subordinates and recommends recognition or discipline in accordance with company policy.
- Internally, has considerable contact with maintenance, Technical, Purchasing and other Operating areas, Safety & Environmental and the VP of Operations.
- Externally, has contact with vendors for purchasing of consumables.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Technical Degree from approved university/College (BS/BA) and/or work experience necessary to perform position.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Mobility in plant.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
- The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Visual ability with or without correction.
- Communication abilities.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
- Follow Company safety rules.
- Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately.
- Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:
- Safety shoes
- Safety glasses
- Hearing protection
- Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy.
- Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
- Clean, well ventilated and safe work areas.
