CNA Med Tech

We are looking for a skilled and certified CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and Med Tech to become a part of our facility’s compassionate care-giving team. The CNA/Med Tech will interact directly with participants by monitoring their vital signs and assisting with daily living needs. We are searching for a dedicated, compassionate and energetic individual to be a vital link between our participants, caregivers, nurse and other facility staff. Under the direction of the Adult Day Services Director, the C.N.A. provides health care assessment and focuses upon assisting the participant toward an optimum level of health, independence and self-care.

Examples of Duties

  • Develop, implement, and regularly review medical program component goals
  • Monitor each participant’s health status, including vital signs, weight, personal hygiene and nutritional habits, working with participants, staff and families as appropriate
  • Report on the condition of each participant by ascertaining and communicating, both verbally and through written documentation, facts based on objective observation of physiological, emotional and behavioral changes
  • Prepare written reports and correspondence required to assure optimal service to

participants and their caregivers.

· Manage medication, including administering and recording prescribed medication supplied by the participants

· Initiate procedures for emergency care which are dependent on the nurse’s technical knowledge and professional judgment

  • Assist in activities of daily living
  • Provide individual and family instruction or advice on health-related issues based on need
  • Represent the center as appropriate in the community through scheduled presentations
  • Assist Nurse as required
  • Maintain storage of health, medical and sanitary supplies
  • Miscellaneous duties as necessary (monitors vans, provides assistance to participants entering and exiting program and responsible for locking/unlocking ADS areas in AM or PM)
  • Responsible for Computer input of medical aspects of participant charts
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate health records which meet licensing and policy requirements of all funding sources
  • Responsible for safety practices including employee & participant safety, fire drills and related documentation

Education

· High School diploma or GED

· Completion of a state-approved CNA certification/Med Tech training course

· Basic computer skills

· Ability to work as part of a team and to handle multiple tasks safely and effectively

· High tolerance for working under pressure and handling critical situations with a cool head

  • CPR/First Aid certification issued within the past three years, or immediately upon employment, from a source approved by the American Red Cross. Certification must be obtained and maintained.
  • Food Handler and infection control training must be completed and knowledge of current practices maintained throughout employment.

Experience

· One year experience working with the impaired elderly or equivalent is required

· Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information with empathy (“bedside manner”)

  • The process of aging

  • Accepted methods of practice within the nurse’s ethical and legal framework
  • Recording and reporting techniques
  • Physical assessment techniques and care planning methods
  • Emergency procedures
  • Infection control procedures and universal precautions
  • Supervisory techniques
  • Above average oral and written communication skills

Abilities

· To work and communicate tactfully, cooperatively and effectively with frail elderly, staff, families, volunteers, medical professionals, and community groups

  • To maintain accurate records and prepare clear and concise reports and correspondence
  • To use sound judgment, particularly in emergencies
  • To be flexible, including adjusting work schedule on short notice
  • To work independently and show initiative

· To be physically capable of providing assistance to participants, including transferring, gait safety while encouraging independence.. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, bend through a full range of motion and stand for extended periods of time

Other

  • Employee must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form.
  • Employee must pass Criminal History check
