Reporting to the Head of BD and Marketing, the Communications Specialist will work to develop PR and communication strategies, write the firm’s multichannel content and drive brand positioning to enable this law firm to earn media/PR placements, showcase their legal expertise, improve their brand, and ultimately drive revenue. Will be responsible for all content on the website, videos, in the press and across social media, and will work to edit and assist with attorney-developed content to create a singular voice that is approachable, clean, and value-driven for the end-user/reader. This role will also be responsible for managing the PR agency relationship to identify and brainstorm media relations in the three key media markets of NYC, LA and Miami, as well as across the globe with industry and specialized publications. Will also work with the wider Marketing and BD team to develop policy, communicate best practices for attorneys, and ensure there are no messaging or PR positioning conflicts throughout the firm. Must be well versed in the legal industry and understand terminology and trends, and must be an exceptional writer, self-starter and team player with the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects and workstreams.
Updating, developing and providing strategic input on all attorney bios from onboarding through
Responsible for social media messaging on LinkedIn and Twitter; experience with Buffer and
Hootsuite is preferred.
Familiarity with Cision database for identifying opportunities and pitching secondary practices not
covered by PR agency.
Creating policies and programs for attorneys to avoid conflicts with client positions to minimize risk to
Educating attorneys on PR and article development best practices through periodic presentations and
Providing heavy edits to articles, article abstracts, and other external communications to create a
more approachable voice in all firmwide content.
Assisting in the preparation of attorneys for media interviews and videos, creating scripts based off
current industry and market issues/trends/opportunities.
Overseeing agency relationships with the firm’s external PR relationships/agencies.
Preparing press releases for key cases, wins, and new partner additions.
Developing pitches for attorney submissions for top tier publications such as Hollywood Reporter,
Variety, and NLJ (note: Chambers and Legal 500 are not part of the role).
Strategizing around PR components of annual planning including setting metrics and reporting
tracking (in concert with agency) for management and Executive Committee reporting.
Assisting with administrative projects including media coverage monitoring, tracking and reporting as
Other duties as required, including overflow and vacation coverage for pitches, client mailings, and
business development research.
Bachelor’s degree required; JD is a plus
Understanding of practices, industry trends, and familiarity with the nuances of a law partnership
Media relationships in key legal and business publications is a plus
Passion for process, efficiency and the ability to be a self-starter is critical
Executive presence and the ability to influence leadership to improve workstreams and processes
