Therefore, recognizing the significant role of women in economic development is the smart thing to do, as well as being socially and morally responsible. We believe that achieving gender equality is imperative to developing a sustainable and just world for all, which is possible by acknowledging the crucial role that women play in the world economy.We believe that by building up a woman’s agency and knowledge, better synergies between gender equality and economic sustainability are realized, enabling her to generate a long-term impact in both her private and professional life.BACKGROUNDDress for Success-Phoenix is part of a global movement to provide women with the resources they need to be financially secure and independent, offering long-lasting solutions that enable women to break the cycle of poverty. Dress for Success Worldwide began in 1997 and has since helped nearly one million women in 23 countries and 145 cities, including Phoenix. Since inception in 2009, Dress for Success-Phoenix, has transformed the lives of more than 16,000 women, by providing them with more than $700,000 in apparel and accessories, countless hours of professional development, training, and supportive networking programs that expand their skills and confidence. The outcomes are impressive, and tangible as evidenced by 76% securing employment, 23% receiving promotions within one year, and 80% reducing debt or building an emergency savings fundServing women throughout Maricopa County, clients make crucial inroads to financial independence and upward mobility. Women in need are referred by 150+ nonprofit partners comprised of social service agencies, educational institutions, religious organizations, and governmental agencies. The flagship program for Dress for Success is outfitting women with clothing for interviews and once employed, a wardrobe for five days. Volunteers serve as personal shoppers making the experience one that is focused on respect and building clients’ self-worth. The vast majority of clothing is donated by the community. While suiting is what the organization is best known for, the career programs are the backbone. These programs include career center resources that offer workshops addressing resume writing, interviewing skills, job placement, and employment retention programs. One program that has flourished is the Professional Women’s Group, a vital employment retention program. Unique to Dress for Success-Phoenix are two Mobile Career Centers that have served over 3,500 clients since launching in 2015. The Teen Workforce Initiative (“TWI”), in conjunction with St. Joseph the Worker, helps young people ages 15-24 successfully enter the workforce through education and empowerment. TWI brings a specialized curriculum directly into the classroom to serve high school students and recent graduates through job readiness classes and appropriate professional attire.As an affiliate of Dress for Success Worldwide, Dress for Success-Phoenix is an independent 501(c) organization, governed by a dedicated 11-person Board of Directors comprised of community and business leaders. Dress for Success-Phoenix is one of the top performing affiliates of Dress for Success Worldwide and the recipient of multiple awards. The organization is recognized as a vital catalyst for social change and has thrived through an innovative approach to programs, development, and collaboration. THE OPPORTUNITYDress for Success-Phoenix has become a leader in Phoenix and amongst Dress for Success affiliates by remaining focused on outcomes and by identifying and addressing community needs. 2019 was a banner year for Dress for Success-Phoenix. The second mobile career center was launched allowing Dress for Success-Phoenix to significantly increase its outreach capacity. Dress for Success-Phoenix was able to serve over 3,800 women, the largest number of women served in the organizations’ history. 36% of women served by the mobile unit secured employment. In 2020, COVID-19 forced Dress for Success-Phoenix to pivot and change how they reached clients and fulfilled the mission. The staff and board did a tremendous job of adapting and overcoming many challenges including closing the Boutique and mobile career centers. While the number of women and teens served decreased, the team’s creativity was evident in their development of Style Boxes, which allowed them to continue to provide women with professional outfits. The Boutique re-opened on June 1, 2021. In 2020, the budget was adjusted to account for decreased funding and limited programs. The original suiting goal for 2020 was 4,000 which was adjusted to 1,388. This goal was exceeded. The employment goal was adjusted from 1,500 to 1,000. Despite the pandemic, a new satellite office location was opened. The 2021 budget is projected for $1.4M and includes the addition of 4 new staff members including a yet to be filled position for a Director of Development, allowing the new CEO to recruit key new talent to the organization.Board recruitment is another area of opportunity. There is a need to recruit four new Board members who will help build the profile of Dress for Success-Phoenix and are committed to poverty alleviation and gender equity. Recruitment and retention of Board members will be enhanced with a focus on engagement and re-activating Board committees. Dress for Success-Phoenix relies on more than 200 volunteers to fulfill its mission and provide its crucial services to women. The strategic focus has been to expand funding through developing a planned giving program, formalizing business sponsorships, and growing individual giving. Currently about 60% of funding is secured through corporate and private foundations. Special events generate about 19% and 6% is received from individual donors. The remainder of the funding is from government, corporations, fee for service and workplace giving. Because of the highly diversified revenue and two PPP Loans, Dress for Success-Phoenix was able to survive the financial impacts of COVID-19. A key focus going forward is to continue to grow support from individual and corporate donors. Development and implementation of a structured development plan is needed to grow support from private donors.There are an estimated 3,000 donors in the database. The database can be improved by eliminating duplicates, updating addresses, and donor segmentation. With an updated database, it will be possible to focus on donor cultivation and streamlined communications with a goal of increased philanthropic support from individual donors. While Dress for Success-Phoenix enjoys a strong reputation, continuing to build visibility by broadening the reach and network will ultimately increase the existing donor database. In the past few years, Dress for Success-Phoenix secured public funding to support women receiving SNAP. Additional public sector contracts have been secured since the SNAP funding and there is an interest in continuing to explore new public support going forward. Dress for Success-Phoenix has always relied on referrals from a broad network of nonprofit partners. Continuing to expand these partnerships and nurture existing partnerships allows Dress for Success-Phoenix to be an integral provider in the broader continuum of services in Maricopa County. Expanding to new partners and leveraging existing partnerships may also lead to new funding opportunities. Exploration of potential earned revenue through marketing of training and career development curriculum could be considered. Lisa Doromal, the Founder, and force behind all the achievements of Dress for Success-Phoenix has decided it’s time to pass the baton. Through her dynamic personality, empowering leadership style and true commitment to the mission, she has built a strong foundation for a new leader to continue to rebuild Dress for Success-Phoenix and ultimately move it to new levels of reach and impact.THE POSITIONReporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will successfully lead the organization to a new level of accomplishment and reach. The ideal candidate for this role will strongly believe in Dress for Success-Phoenix’s mission and have a successful track record in leadership within a data-driven, mission-driven organization of comparable size. The CEO ensures ongoing programmatic excellence, program evaluation, as well as consistent quality of finance & administration, fundraising, and communications. This individual will develop a deep knowledge of core programs and operations and will build lasting internal and external relationships that lead to the continued success of Dress for Success-Phoenix.
