About the Role

We're looking for a highly motivated Content Writer / Editor to join our Product team. The Content Writer / Editor at Niche is responsible for creating, commissioning, and managing external-facing content. This is done in alignment with Niche's product vision and overall content strategy. User-facing content includes but is not limited to the Niche Blog (www.niche.com/blog/), on-site in context guidance content, as well as supporting email, social media posts, and other product marketing communications. The Content Writer / Editor is responsible for building and maintaining our content efforts and should be passionate about helping Niche users navigate their school search. Critical to success in this role is an ability to work collaboratively and a drive to get things done.

What You Will Do

During the 1st Month:

  • Collaborate with various team members to learn about the company
  • Work with Product, Design, and Brand Marketing teams to learn tools, workflow, and process for content creation. 
  • Shadow team members to learn more about this role can collaborate with other areas of the business and how your role fits with external stakeholders and teams
  • Begin to understand the basics of the data available internally and how to get the necessary data to create data-driven content. 
  • Begin taking over relationships with freelance content contributors
  • Start writing, editing, and posting content aligned to the editorial calendar and content strategy. 
  • Within 3 Months:

  • Gain a deep understanding of our organization and how different teams work
  • Own and foster relationships with freelancers. This includes taking over the freelance contributor budget, communication, and assignment of work. 
  • Collaborate with members of the team to gain expertise in our current content strategy and dynamically contribute ideas aligned to strategic initiatives. 
  • Begin to use data and SEO metrics to inform and optimize content creation
  • Within 6 Months:

  • Perform self-directed research to identify opportunities for content aligned to the overall strategy
  • Contribute to content strategy conversations and alignment.
  • Own and prioritize the content backlog; work to get buy and alignment from necessary stakeholders. 
  • Ability to find data for content creation independently; this is both from internal Niche data as well as sourcing externally
  • Within 12 months:

  • You will have a deep knowledge of our content strategy and actively contribute to future strategic planning
  • You will use data-driven and user insights from published content to inform future content and initiatives
  • You will actively advocate for user needs in relation to content and overall marketing strategy
  • What We Are Looking For

  • 2+ years of writing and editing experience for a web-based audience 
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Experience pitching story ideas, as well as researching, writing, and editing. 
  • Experience creating data-driven content using data from multiple sources
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively present your work
  • A clear understanding of tone and the ability to quickly adapt your writing style
  • Proven track record of working with others to get things done
  • Useful Experience

  • Managing remote freelance writers
  • Experience in multiple digital and social platforms (e.g. Wordpress, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Experience sourcing or querying databases to gather and clean data
