Newport Academy is a series of evidence-based healing centers for adolescents and families struggling with mental health issues. With locations across the United States, Newport Academy offers a family-systems approach, providing gender-specific, individualized, and comprehensive holistic programs that encompass clinical therapy, academic support, and experiential practices. We treat individuals, ages 12-20, who are experiencing depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and substance abuse. Offerings include residential treatment, intensive outpatient programming, therapeutic day schools, and day treatment. The Academic Tutor will work collaboratively with the Educational/Vocational Therapist to support young adult clients in developing an academic (high school completion or college courses) or a vocational path. The Academic Tutor will also help to supervise Learning Lab hours and manage the Learning Lab space. Based on data collected through assessments and goals developed by the therapist and client, tutors support clients in academic courses and/or career development.
Essential Academic Tutor Responsibilities:
+ Provide one-to-one academic or vocational support to students in areas such as the math and sciences, resume writing, job searches, and college application and enrollment processes.
+ Familiar with FAFSA application process.
+ Be able to provide support to various learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, and processing disorders.
+ Collaborate with other tutors and the Educational/Vocational Therapist in managing the Learning Lab.
+ Provide both written and oral communication with Educational/Vocational Therapist about client progress on goals and areas where they might require more support.
+ Assist in supporting students with ACT, SAT, and state exam preparation as required.
+ Oversight of clients assigned Learning Lab hours and signing off on their attendance.
Basic Education and Experience Required:
+ Bachelor's degree in related field
+ Minimum 2 plus years experience tutoring high school and/or college age students desired.
+ Knowledge of math curriculum through pre-calculus (calculus knowledge a plus but not required).
+ Knowledge to support students in biology, chemistry and/or physics.
