The Department of Psychiatry seeks a Data Analyst to lead the development of a digital health platform to support the activities of a newly established Mental Wellness Equity Center in New York. The Mental Wellness Equity Center at Columbia Psychiatry/New York State Psychiatric Institute seeks to end the mental health and substance use disorders disparities among NIH-designated populations in the U.S. experiencing these disparities. The Center will achieve this by introducing innovative solutions to ensure clinically and culturally effective quality care is available, by addressing the social determinants of health driving disparities, and by promoting policies that create and sustain a scalable blueprint for our nation. There are several levels of opportunity to address this problem - individual, family, community, clinician/provider, system, and policy. The Mental Wellness Equity Center leverages all of these, capitalizes on the expertise of the team in implementation science, and works in conjunction with the New York State Office of Mental Health to pilot innovative solutions to address disparities. The Program Coordinator will be the primary liaison between Mental Wellness Equity Center leadership and our technical partner in the developing a digital platform that will leverage individual level mental health data to improve access to high quality mental health care. We will be migrating from a data capture system developed for research purposes (REDCap) to a dynamic system using OpenSRP that will leverage real-time data to inform data driven policy and practice. The new platform will be HIPAA compliant and user configurable using FHIR standards. The Program Coordinator will work with our technical partner to design and creation of dynamic dashboards to visualize data and inform data-driven policy and practice based on parameters and functionality specified by the Mental Wellness Equity Center leadership team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary liaison between the Mental Wellness Equity Center leadership team and our technical partner in designing and creating this digital platform to reduce mental health disparities in NYS
  • Create mock-ups to facilitate communication between Equity Center leadership and technical partner
  • Troubleshoot with programming team to achieve desired functionality
  • Extract data as necessary
  • Manage user access to data
  • Learn to modify and configure platform components
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance across all activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in computer science/math/public health/informatics or BA/BS or equivalent related experience
  • 5 years of related work experience.
  • 2 years of experience in data visualization in health; graduate level coursework in statistics/data management

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with FHIR strongly preferred; knowledge of Kotlin and Java; ability to develop wire-frames (e.g. Balsamiq); public health/mental health
