Under the supervision of the physician, the APRN shall provide initial medical and mental health evaluations, on-going assessments, psychotherapy, alteration of medication, detoxification, outreach/intervention assistance and emergency certificates (when appropriate) to individuals experiencing physical health problems, mental health problems and/or substance abuse problems. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) follows the written established protocol between the MD and the APRN. Other regulatory agencies also have input into the scope of APRN practice and those policies and procedures shall be followed in respect to the APRN's assigned duties.
Must be an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and be certified in Psychiatric-Mental Health.
Must be in good physical condition with no restrictions of movement.
Must be able to apply Therapeutic Effective Aggression Management (CPI/CARE) Techniques without limitations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.0 Evaluates and provides diagnosis for mental health clients.
1.1 Formulates initial evaluation which includes:
Mental Status exam
Diagnosis per DSM IV including all 5 Axis
Formulation of treatment plan which includes appropriate treatment modalities medication, lab work and referral for other medical orders are needed.
1.2 Provides case supervision on an on-going basis to provide medical follow up as defined in established psychiatric protocol.
1.3 Discharges patient with appropriate medication management and other appropriate aftercare services.
2.0 Follows the physician requested clinical duties as assigned.
2.1 Demonstrates the ability to order the right psychiatric medication in accordance with the patient's past psychiatric history and current behavior and mental status.
2.2 Documents the ordering of medications on the physician order form.
2.3 Utilizes medications from the Formulary when possible.
2.4 Monitors patient's progress and documents responses and reactions to the prescribed medication management program.
2.5 Assists in the documentation of all medication side effects or variances with the appropriate departments and committees.
2.6 Maintains current and up-to-date knowledge about all psychotropic and other psychiatric medications intended to assist the patient to a higher level of functioning.
3.0 Conducts self responsibly and demonstrates a high degree of dependability and autonomy as a member of the medical staff.
3.1 Attends all physician staff meetings and rounds as requested.
3.2 Works independently with a high degree of productivity.
3.3 Interacts and maintains effective and positive working relationships with clients, co-workers, and other mental and medical professionals.
3.4 Maintains an active license meeting all licensure/educational requirements as defined by their Board of Licensure.
3.5 Attends clinical supervision on an on-going basis with Medical Director/designee.
3.6 Provides appropriate clinical coverage for patients in his/her absence.
4.0 Performs other duties as requested.
4.1 Miscellaneous duties are performed according to instruction.
