Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Medication Administration Trainer is responsible for onboarding training for all new hires in the area of medication administration, side effects, and interactions.  This position will work with the HR Trainer to develop and maintain the curriculum, implementation of said training.  A secondary responsibility of this position is to work a limited schedule with the Wellness Coordinator under the Residential Program.

Essential Functions/Job Duties:

  1. Complete all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the agency Code of Ethics.
  2. Developing the curriculum for new hire orientation as it pertains to medication administration in accordance with the Indiana Administrative Code Title 460 Article 6 Section 25 (Rule 460 IAC 6-25-6) and Family and Social Services Administration Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services Policy: Requirements & Training of Direct Support Professional Staff.
  3. Provide training of the direct support professionals to ensure implementation of the risk plan.
  4. Consult with the individual’s health care providers.
  5. Complete face to face consultations with the individuals.
  6. Participate in the individual team meetings of clients 
  7. Provide reports to pertinent parties on a quarterly basis as identified by the team. 
  8. Maintain positive work relations and timely communicate with other agency staff and management.

  13. Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents including reports, evaluation reports, lab results, doctor orders, behavior reports, etc. 
  14. Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.
  15. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Work Environment 

  1. This job operates in a professional office environment in addition to the home environment of clients served and their day program. 
  2. This job requires interaction in medical facilities and hospitals.  
  3. This role routinely uses computers and phones. 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The job may require lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position of 15-20 hours per week.   Days and hours of work are not always consistent in schedule but based on the needs in the program. 

Travel

Travel may be expected to meet the needs of the employees, families, clients, training or other responsibilities assigned to the position.

Required Education and Experience 

  1. Active nursing license - RN or LPN
  2. Must possess or be able to complete requirements for First Aid/CPR and other required certification.
  3. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
