Position: Kennedy Rising Hope Shelter Hypothermia Seasonal Residential Services Specialist

Reports to: Hypothermia Coordinator of Residential Services

Supervises: N/A

Summary of Position:

The Resident Services Specialist is responsible for monitoring the activities of the shelter on his/her shift to ensure a safe, manageable, positive energy, living environment. The focus is on the guests and how best to assist them during their stay. They are members of the site/program team.

Essential Responsibilities:

Some of the essential responsibilities of the Residential Services Specialist include, but are not limited to:

1. Ensures a safe and manageable living environment for the shelter/Program guest. Monitors guest areas is visible and interacts regularly and informally with shelter guest.
2. Reads logbook from previous shift to note any items that need attention.
3. Completes essential forms for intakes and checkout procedures for guests.
4. Consults with Coordinator of Residential Services and case managers regarding guests' personal needs, behavior, and service planning.
5. Within limits, assists guest in processing issues, problem solving, concerns etc. Provides a positive role model for all guests.
6. Maintains all required documentation of guests’ activities on a current basis.
7. Assists in Monitoring medication to guests if required at the location.
8. Document all incidents in writing and reports to Supervisors as needed.
9. Answers telephone and routes calls and messages to appropriate staff in a professional manner. Responds to in-person and telephone inquiries from the public about New Hope Housing, Inc. with a courteous and professional demeanor.
10. Supervises guest chores and guest upkeeping of their personal areas. Informs case manager, Supervisor and Director when there are problems.
11. Assists with guest activities and programs, as assigned.
12. Accounts for all donations received during the shift. Controls access to donations and secures donations as appropriate. Issue receipts to donors.
13. Replenishes supply closet when needed. Assists in serving meals when needed. Monitors meals at times.
14. Works flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and over nights as assigned.
15. Models a caring, concerned, and respectful attitude toward Guest.
16. Maintains adherence to guest guidelines and upholds shelter procedures.
17. Is familiar with and complies with policies and procedures of New Hope Housing.
18. May orient, and/or supervise court-referred volunteers.
19. Provide emergency coverage when relief is late or not coming in to work.
    Communicates regularly with referring agencies and maintains all required documentation, as assigned.
20. Participates in all staff meetings and training in person if required.
21. Transports guest in agency vehicles, including agency's 15-passenger van on an as needed basis and only when requested by supervisor. Must have a Valid driver’s license.
22. Light cleaning such as emptying common area trash cans, wiping down counters, and mopping common area floors, etc.
23. Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

This position requires the following:

1. High School Diploma or the equivalent, and the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and have an interest in working with those who are homeless and the capability to be aware of their needs.
2. Experience working with adults experiencing homeless, diagnosed with behavior health disorders or are substance dependent.
3. Counseling and crisis intervention skills.
4. Clinical experience preferred.
5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. Computer literate.
7. The ability to successfully pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license

with a good driving record to be approved by our insurance carrier.
