Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: The dual counselor is responsible for oversite of a caseload specific to their program site and population served within that program. The dual counselor conducts assessments rendering a diagnosis and treatment recommendations for their client caseload and develops treatment goals in collaboration with the client.

Additionally, the dual counselor is responsible for the provision of
individual counseling and group counseling that is specific to their site. Finally, the dual counselor takes on a lead role in collaborating care with other providers and the treatment team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains a client caseload as assigned.
2. Conducts an orientation with each client new to the agency to ensure that the client has signed the Informed Consent for Treatment and understands their Client Rights.
3. Conducts a dual diagnosis assessment on clients and provides appropriate treatment
recommendations based on client needs.
4. Develops treatment goals in collaboration with the client and reviews treatment goals while collaborating with the client as accreditation standards require.
5. Completes level of care documentation with each dual diagnosis or substance use client as required by accreditation standards.
6. Engages the client in and facilitates individual, group and family counseling services in accordance with ethical standards.
7. Upon completion or termination of care, a discharge summary is completed on the client and a copy is offered to or sent to the client.
8. Upon completion or termination of care, the client is discharged from agency services within 30 days of their last contact with the agency.
9. In situations where it may be appropriate, ensures that the client is transitioned to alternative agency services via a task referral and ensures the process is seamless and the client is connected.
10. Connects client to necessary treatment services and referral sources based on the client’s needs. Conducts appropriate documentation and paperwork to facilitate the connection.
11. Appropriately advocates for clients to ensure treatment needs are addressed.
12. Maintains documentation that meets medical necessity and accurately reflects the client’s engagement with service providers. Ensures documentation is entered into the medical record in a manner that is timely and in accordance with ethical and accreditation standards.
13. Completes and submits billing for services in a manner that is consistent with agency policy.
14. Participates in the tracking and compiling of outcome data to assist in determining the success of programs.
15. Participates in site clinical staffing times and appropriately reviews assessment findings and recommendations with site supervisors.
16. Appropriately consults with the site supervisor on high risk clients and ensures appropriate safety plans or connection to referral sources for crisis intervention services have been achieved.
17. Conducts drug screening and follows agency workflow to ensure chain of custody has been maintained.
18. Maintains state licensure and/or certification. Conducts timely renewal to ensure there is not a lapse in licensure and/or certification.
19. Follows policy and procedures and workflows. Actively seeks out supervision of site supervisor when there are questions related to policy and procedures and workflows.
20. Meets productivity standard.
21. Requirement of all staff assigned to CCNO Site: Will abide by all policies and procedures of CCNO.

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION:
Regardless of education and licensure type, clinical staff members are expected to be present at clinical staff meetings, treatment team meetings and agency trainings and in-service meetings. Additionally, there is a degree of day to day case consultation that occurs regarding client care and managing high risk and crisis orientated situations.
Counselor 1 – Weekly clinical supervision with site supervisor; Weekly site clinical staffing; Weekly clinical group supervision with clinical supervisor (only for those individuals working towards independent licensure – LSW with master degree, LPC with master degree, MFT with master degree);
Required to consult with site supervisor on all diagnostic assessment recommendations and diagnoses prior to finalizing assessment.
DEGREE OF EDUCATION:
Counselor 1 – Will possess a bachelor degree in social work or other helping profession that is eligible for licensure. May possess a master degree in social worker, counseling or other helping profession that is eligible for licensure.
LICENSURE:
Counselor 1 – Will be licensed as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), a Licensed Professional Counselor
(LPC), or a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapy Board – or – Will be licensed as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board

  • Maintains state licensure and/or certification. Conducts timely renewal to ensure there is not a lapse in licensure and/or certification.
  • Follows policy and procedures and workflows of Recovery Services of Northwest Ohio. Actively seeks out supervision of site supervisor when there are questions related to policy and procedures and workflows.
  • Meets productivity standard.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed as a LSW, LPC, or MFT through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapy Board – or – Licensed as a LCDC II or LCDC III through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or other helping profession that is eligible for licensure is required. Master’s degree in social work, counseling or other helping profession that is eligible for licensure preferred.
  • Training and experience within the substance use and mental health field.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Subject to a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and reference checks
