Job Description

Responsibilities:

  1. Contribute and support the Program Director in planning and evaluating the program and participant’s goals.

  2. In case of a special event or circumstance, assist all staff as needed.

  3. Assist in the implementation of individual planned program goals for each participant.

  4. Maintain and document records of participant accidents or incidents as required.

  5. Notify immediate supervisor of concerns or issues regarding participants, maintenance, and repairs in the facility or other company assets.

  6. Take part in planned staff meetings and other meetings as allotted.

  7. Assist all participants in being actively involved in the daily activities to achieve greater independence using person-centered planning and self-determination.

  8. Maintain and submit all required records and reports.

  9. Go with and transport participants, volunteers, and staff on scheduled community outings.

  10. Oversee arrivals and departures of participants.

  11. Execute other duties related to the field of service as may be assigned by the Program Director, Administrator, and/or Executive Director.

  12. Attend and ensure full completion of all training and certification as assigned by NEILS’ board of directors, state of Maine, or the federal government.

  13. Maintain NEILS professional etiquette by respecting boundaries mentioned in Appendix 1 of this document.

Extended Job Responsibilities (Side Tasks):

  1. Facilitate and support participants to achieve acceptable levels of personal hygiene. i.e. Bathing and showering, grooming, dressing, toilet hygiene, and self-feeding.

  2. Ensure that participant is capable of executing instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) I.e. taking prescribed medications, cleaning and maintaining the house, managing money, moving within the community, preparing meals, shopping for groceries and necessities, and using the telephone and other forms of communication.

  3. Take part in housekeeping chores such as vacuuming, shopping, laundry, washing dishes, dusting, and mopping.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent

  2. Must have a Maine drivers’ license, proof of good driving records, and retain the ability to be insured through NEILS insurance partners.

  3. Must demonstrate the will and readiness to obtain CPR, CPI, CRMA, and DSP certifications. All of which can be complete through the NEILS certification program or other programs.

  4. Pass Maine background check

  5. Computer literate and technologically savvy

  6. Enjoys working with developmentally disabled individuals to improve their quality of life

  7. Can quickly manage stressful situations responsibly and effectively

  8. Strong interpersonal skills and passion for helping those in need

  9. Ability to move and stand for prolonged periods and frequently perform physically demanding tasks
