Job Description

Job Summary:

The Sr. Systems Engineer ensures efforts are in alignment with the IT Enterprise Services Department to support customer-focused objectives and the IT Vision, a collaborative partner delivering innovative ideas, solutions, and services to simplify people's lives. This role is responsible for complete administration, support, troubleshooting and implementation of Windows and Linux operating systems and applications. This role is recognized as having high levels of technical aptitude. In addition to administering multiple systems, this role will be an active participant the planning, coordination, and architecture of all activities related to the implementation of new and existing Linux and Windows enterprise systems and third-party solutions, as required, to meet the business needs. This role ensures high levels of availability for production and developmental business applications. This role will function as a technical lead for all Linux and Windows projects.

  • Develop and implement maintenance routines and system audits to ensure system integrity.
  • Provide responsive technical assistance and document configuration and support processes.
  • Work with Infrastructure, Application Services, Data Services, DBAs and the business to ensure optimal operations and uptime of application environments to set and meet service level agreements.
  • Develop/Support change control and testing processes
  • Analyze systems for overall performance and give recommendations on improvements.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform improvements, patches, and reconfigurations.
  • Develop, document, and maintain application development and maintenance standards
  • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
  • Provide backup administrational support to other teammates and the platforms for which they are responsible.
  • Recognized as a system expert in multiple core enterprise systems and be able to effectively provide knowledge training to peers.
  • Provide after-hours support.
  • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users, third party vendors, and department managers.
  • Develop strong working relationship with Third Party vendors.
  • Participate the planning of Upgrades/Releases of Linux and Windows operating systems and software to limit user impact.
  • Research and recommend innovative, automated approaches for system administration tasks and integration with other enterprise level business applications.
  • Establish, document, and maintain processes and procedures linked to the onboarding, management and off boarding Enterprise Applications installed on servers for Citrix and Non-Citrix consumption, along with desktop master images.
  • Work together with other members of the infrastructure team, Service Desk, and business partners to ensure that the process is seamless and operationalized (automated) as much as possible.
  • Primary support responsibilities are to manage and maintain our Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Netscaler and Enterprise Application Management in a heavily virtualized environment.
  • Work with Enterprise Architects (primarily Infrastructure) to maintain long-term directional vision and alignment.
  • Establish, document, and maintain best practices for the Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Netscaler, together with coordination of upgrades, scaling and optimization of its different aspects like licensing, persistent and non-persistent master images, resourcing and more.
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Background Requirements:

  • Education: College degree or equivalent experience required in the field of Information Technology and/or a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in hardware or software installation and support.
  • Experience:
    • Certifications in Citrix technologies are desired but not required.
    • Extensive experience required in the following areas: Microsoft/Azure Active Directory, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Netscaler and Windows Server/OS administration (2019, 2016, 2012, Windows 10).
    • Conceptual knowledge of information technologies and methodologies is preferred.
    • Knowledge in the following areas: Citrix, VMWare, Infrastructure Monitoring, Enterprise Compute, Enterprise Storage, O365, and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop Service.

  • Understanding of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity concepts and practices
  • Unyielding desire to constantly improve the capabilities and resiliency of IT systems to provide excellent satisfaction to both external and internal customers.
  • Researches emerging technologies, products, products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Emphasis on building Proof of Concept environments and greenfield project implementations
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • On-call availability.
  • Some travel may be required.
