SANITATION SPECIALIST, 2nd & 3rd Shifts


SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for the detailed cleaning of the baking equipment and structures in a food manufacturing environment using specialized equipment and techniques. Sanitation cleans up after production shifts by breaking down the production equipment, scrub, scrape, wash, and sanitize.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The following duties are typical of this position. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Equipment Cleaning;
  • Facility structure cleaning
    • Walls and ceilings at heights;
  • ATP Swabbing;
  • Environmental Swabbing;
  • Some additional tasks may be assigned, or some help requested in order to complete all costing related projects on time and distribute regular reports as scheduled;
  • Perform tasks associated with general sanitation – to include: scrub, scrape, and wash equipment to perfect sanitary condition;
  • Keep plant trash removed on a timely basis;
  • Follow sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs);
  • Perform assignments in accordance with established GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) policies and procedures;
  • Perform scheduled tasks on the Master Sanitation Schedule;
  • Sweep, mop, clean, and sanitize floors;
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions for the Sanitation Department;
  • Maintain clean outside grounds and office areas;
  • Clean and sanitize employee restrooms, break-rooms, freezers, & ovens;
  • Demonstrate good verbal communication skills;
  • Familiar with SQF, HACCP, and GMP practices which help ensure the safety within the workplace and the production of a safe and quality product;
  • Follows work instructions and OSHA safety rules, including the use of PP and other safety equipment in an industrial environment.


KNOWLEDGE & UNDERSTANDING
The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period to successfully perform the assigned duties.

  • Manual cleaning and sanitizing;
  • Chemical disinfection;
  • Clean in Place;
  • Master Sanitation Schedules;
  • ATP verification;
  • Environmental Monitoring;
  • High heat pressure washers;
  • Dry ice blasting;
  • Scissor lift;
  • Articulated Boom Lift;
  • Air Samplers.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Education Required;
  • Advanced Education or Certifications are a plus;
  • General understanding of manufacturing processes and related equipment;
  • Ability to make decisions based on standard practices;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve;
  • Basic understanding of sanitation processes and related equipment;
  • Ability to run sanitation equipment;
  • Ability to read, comprehend and communicate safety labels on chemical containers;
  • Ability to work overtime as needed with little or no notice.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder, shoulder-to-overhead and pushing/pulling/carrying;
  • Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend/twist neck and back; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands;
  • Ability to tolerate humid, wet working environment with temperatures up to 70 degrees F.;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Ability to be in contact with sanitation/cleaning chemicals.

POSITION/EXPECTED WORK HOURS
This is a full-time position and it may require working additional hours at times.
