Job Description

This position is based in Knoxville, TN.

This is a growth-oriented, entry-level position for someone who has a BS in accounting/finance and a love for the technical side of things. We are implementing new processes and systems (Quickbooks to NetSuite) and need someone who understands both accounting and accounting systems. This is a hands-on, in the trenches role in which you will work across functional areas without silos.

This role is responsible for maintaining financial procedures and confirming financial compliance through preparation of company reports, journal entries, and statements. This role is the primary role responsible for coordinating payroll preparation and processing and related report distribution in an accurate and timely manner consistent with company policy as well as federal and state laws.

Responsibilities

  • participate in financial standards setting and in budget development and forecasting processes
  • analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • prepare and present month-end and year-end closing reports
  • prepare journal entries, account reconciliations assisting with monthly close process
  • review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  • assist in developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • process Accounts Payable invoices for timely vendor payments
  • work with expense tracking software package and integration with NetSuite
  • maintains payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • reconciles payroll and other financial accounts
  • maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
  • conduct monthly insurance deduction audits, collecting premiums as invoiced
  • complete ad hoc projects as needed by the Controller.
  • assist with processing expenses via selected software
  • support the A/R process by assisting with documentation gathering, account reconciliation and processing commissions accordingly

Basic Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP
  • one year of related experience required
  • computer and internet proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office Suite and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems
  • experience working with various accounting packages (Quickbooks, NetSuite, Expensify, and BambooHR/Trax experience preferred)
  • experience working independently, pro-actively completing project activities; communicating with other subject matter experts and project teams and making recommendations for improvements
  • extreme attention to detail
  • professionalism exhibited in verbal and written communications
  • highly proficient in Excel (vlookup, pivot tables)
