Job Description

The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) is the national membership organization for the nation’s federally qualified health centers (also known as FQHCs or Community Health Centers). Health centers are nonprofit, community-directed health clinics that provide access to high-quality, culturally competent, and comprehensive care to people living in medically underserved areas. NACHC strengthens the health center movement through advocacy, training, and technical assistance, clinical and operations support. NACHC”s Health Center Operations and Governance (HCOG) functional area strives to preserve, strengthen and expand the health center movement. We do this by supporting the health center volunteer Boards of Directors and workforce with leadership development, operational performance improvement tools, and through the application of data to inform decision making and drive learning. We design, deliver and evaluate health center training services with three guideposts in mind: content relevance, engaging instructional design and leveraging partnerships. This ensures an impactful and practical learning experience that directly translates into a thriving health center for communities, patients and employees.

The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Health Center Governance is an experienced leader responsible for strategically integrating components of the NACHC educational portfolio to meet the training and technical assistance (TTA) needs of the Health Centers’ volunteer Boards of Directors and CEOs whom report to those Boards. This position specifically focuses on the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of impactful professional education focused on health center governance leading practices in the not-for-profit sector with tailoring for the Health Center nuanced environment.

This position works under the supervision of and in close partnership with the Senior Vice President (SVP), who support Director-led teams within the functional area to direct the organization’s national learning and education approach, assessment and evaluation of learners’ needs, professional competency development, funder and partner relationships and delivery of exceptional services to the national health center workforce and governing Boards, tailored for national, regional, state, and market-based levels.

The AVP of Health Center Governance is responsible for the strategic alignment of portfolio components, working in close collaboration with the AVP, Health Center Capacity Building who oversees education for operations-focused, non-clinical health center workforce in the Health Center Operations and Governance (HCOG) functional area. In addition, the AVP, Health Center Governance is responsible for regular collaboration and coordination with other functional area leaders and cross-organization efforts to preserve and advance the health center governance model. This position oversees a team of governance experts, who are responsible for the design, implementation, delivery and evaluation of a comprehensive professional development and technical assistance portfolio. This position has clear understanding of the intersection of health care policy, operational delivery, resource navigation, federal administration and program compliance, and community-based governance, which requires moderate travel and in-person representation on behalf of NACHC and the functional area.

Key Responsibilities

· Create and execute a vision and strategic direction for NACHC’s Health Center Governance program with quantifiable evidence of impactful outcomes

· Maintain relationships with funders, external partners and other functional areas within NACHC to explore and support expanded governance programming while reducing unnecessary duplication, increasing collaboration and demonstrating collective impact.

· Build, lead, coach, and guide a solutions-oriented Health Center Governance team.

· Serve as a subject matter expert/thought leader on governance.

· Contribute to and participate in NACHC’s senior leadership team, internal strategic organizational improvements, and cross-function integration and alignment efforts which entails programming and business operations.

· Federal Administration and Philanthropic Stewardship – the ability to and experience in executive/senior level leadership, administration, monitoring and ensuring compliance of high-level external investments that advance the organization’s learning and education portfolio for the national customer base

· Adult Learning/Instructional Design – the ability to and experience in application of adult learning principles, instructional design techniques, multi-modality delivery and needs assessment.

· Communication and Interpersonal Skills -the ability to and experience in complex and concise executive/senior level written and oral communication, including a high degree of emotional intelligence, interpersonal and negotiation skills that advance internal and external customer service and teamwork.
