NLT Management Services has an immediate contractor position available to work in a crime forensic science lab in the San Fransico region.
The main function of a forensic laboratory technician is to perform the specific scientific procedures that allow scientists to perform the more complex analytical processes of the laboratory. This position provides support for various forensic disciplines such as evidence, explosives, arson, DNA, fingerprint, and firearms. The work plays an important role in the foundation stages of research and development and in scientific analysis and investigation. Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; and the ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as a member of a team.
Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited university or college. Relevant fields of study include, but are not limited to, forensic science/criminalistics, biology, chemistry, engineering, and natural and physical sciences. Work experience may be substituted for educational requirements with prior approval from our client.
Preferred Experience: Prefer a minimum of two years’ experience in a relevant area. Relevant areas include but are not limited to forensic examination and analysis or work that provided experiential knowledge of the laboratory accreditation process.
The following knowledge and skills are not all-inclusive, but are indicative of the requirements for the Forensic Technician Support position:
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), experience is required in order to prepare documents, listings, tables, briefings, and worksheets.
Microsoft Office (Access, Project, Vizio) experience is desirable.
The capability to exercise administrative judgment and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service.
Ability to exchange non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgment in resolution of administrative problems.
Capability to exhibit accepted customer service practices and professional acumen in response to daily tasks, due dates, and requests for information.
Forensic laboratory technicians are responsible for laboratory-based tasks, which include sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing results in biological, chemical, physical and life sciences. They also provide all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines.
The incumbent will carry out fundamental tests as part of a scientific team.
The incumbent should possess basic research skills in order to perform research and gather data from a variety of sources.
Has knowledge of scientific and specialized terminology used in a laboratory. Must be able to recognize and use scientific terminology to deal with callers (such as equipment vendors, repair personnel, and customers) and in preparing scientific documentation and laboratory reports that are based on rough drafts or verbal instructions.
Be capable of soliciting quotes to procure equipment, supplies, and other materials needed for processing of cases.
Maintains job proficiency within one’s area of responsibility by obtaining job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities through formal instruction, research, and other educational venues and/or job enrichment opportunities for self-development.
Candidates with a current Secret clearance preferred but not required.
Condition of employment – Candidates MUST be a USA citizen and able to pass a detailed security background.
