Job Description: Under the direction of a licensed physician or clinical supervisor, provide on-going supervision and resident centered care by facilitating, participating and monitoring the treatment activities of residents with substance use disorders or co-occurring substance and psychiatric disorders. Maintains a safe and therapeutic home environment. To take appropriate measures for assisting residents in meeting their daily basic needs for health and safety. To assist in meeting resident treatment objectives as directed by the treatment team. To provide appropriate documentation as required by the SUD Program policies and procedures. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Take appropriate measures to meet the residents daily basic needs for health and safety including but not limited to the following tasks: a)serve meals, b) conduct safety checks, c) monitor residents according to the assigned levels of observation, e) assist in maintaining a clean work environment, and g) other duties as assigned by a supervisor.Complete all required electronic and paper charting, documentation and data entry of residents as outlined in the appropriate SUD guidelines, manuals, policies and procedures.Demonstrate verbal de-escalation skills and attend agency mandated trainings.Participate in clinical activities as directed by a supervisor including but not limited to: a) facilitate approved group activities, b) conduct ongoing observation and evaluation of resident mental status during each shift, c) record resident nutritional intake and sleep if appropriate and d) other clinical activities as directed by a supervisor.Complete all paperwork involved in providing direct resident care including but not limited to: a) paperwork relating to admission and discharge, b) confidentiality, c) resident rights, d) resident inventories, e) tracking sheets, and f) other forms as needed.Keep current on all required documentationObserves, documents, and reports resident physical and psychological behavior;Develops respectful relationships with residents and those persons significant to the resident;Encourages and assists clients in daily living activities;Performs crisis intervention and notifies Supervisor as neededParticipates in the discharge process.Communicates regularly with residents, co-workers/shift supervisors and others as appropriate, and engages residents to talk about their mental illness and substance misuse. Observes residents for changes in behavior, monitors activities of residents, motivates residents to participate in activities, and also guides and advises residents in their personal adjustment utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques. Interprets the resident handbook for residents as needed; applies applicable rules and regulations to residents.Advises and guides residents on personal hygiene habits. Monitors and tracks compliance with self-administered medication process if instructed. Oversees collection of urine specimen for drug screens. Assists residents in gathering/obtaining personal property when discharged.Answers phones and provides other administrative support as needed.Provides guidance to other staff regarding coordination of client servicesSpecialist provides skilled administrative clerical support and assists with orientation and training for Behavioral Health Technicians in a residential facilityEnsures more administrative support and program compliance with the activity schedule.May attend clinical staff and treatment meetings; co-facilitates staff meetingsMaintains and organizes client case filesAssists with care in delivering direct care for those with substance disorders or with co-occurring substance and psychiatric disordersProvides admission/orientation to residents and their families and completes all applicable documentation.appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description Shift: Varies. Days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holiday shifts will be required. Nature of Position:continuous exposure to conditions which may result in accidents or injuries or other uncomfortable situations. Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision of the position. Hires who do not possess such a certification may participate in this examination process and be appointed to a position(s), but will be required to obtain the certificate within two (3) months of hire date and maintain validity throughout length of employment. A photocopy of the valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate must be provided to the appropriate supervisor of the appointment within the allotted time frame. Failure to demonstrate/show proof of possession of valid certification within two (2) months of hire date and throughout length of employment may result in dismissal and/or termination of employment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or GED with six months relevant work experience preferred, State Driver License may be required prior to transporting clients. A bachelor’s degree in a counseling-related field is preferred. College course work could be substituted for work experience. PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, ascend and descend stairs, talk or listen and lift up to 50 pounds. Peripheral vision is also required for this position. A fair degree of flexibility and strength is required in this position due to the infrequent, yet essential, use of one’s body in the temporary physical restraint of some residents. Supervision : Position reports to the Program Supervisor as directed and does not provide supervision to others except to new hires during orientation. Scope of Responsibilities: Adheres to agency model and documentation for admissions, treating persons with co-occurring disorders and orientation. Carries out tasks associated with laundry, a clean living environment, and ensures safety of clients receiving services. Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions:Demonstrates a general knowledge of program professional plan, program policies and procedures. Performs and documents pre-admission searches, and informs designated personnel of bruises, etc. and searches clients' property for contraband. Makes frequent rounds of facility to insure adequate safeguards and client safety are maintained. Facilitates/complies with emergency preparedness - monthly mock scenario emergency drills.Communicates regularly with clients, co-workers/shift supervisors and others as appropriate, and engages clients to talk about their mental illness and substance misuse. Observes clients for changes in behavior, monitors activities of clients, motivates clients to participate in activities, and also guides and advises clients in their personal adjustment utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques. Interprets the client handbook for clients as needed; applies applicable rules and regulations to clients.Assists clients in preparing for court appearances or other outside activities, and implements supportive, psycho-educational and recreational groups. Advises and guides clients on personal hygiene habits. Monitors and tracks compliance with self-administered medication process if instructed. Oversees collection of urine specimen for drug screens and may complete and record vital signs as assigned. Assists clients in gathering/obtaining personal property when discharged.Documents individual contacts, daily case notes, incident and injury reports and grievances. Answers phones and provides other administrative support as needed . Builds new case files and breaks down discharged client case files.Performs related work as required /assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or GED with six months relevant work experience preferred, State Driver License may be required prior to transporting clients. A bachelor’s degree in a counseling-related field is preferred. College course work could be substituted for work experience. The omission of specific statements does not preclude management from assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to position.
