TITLE: Field Service Technician I
LOCATION: Novi Garden - Livonia, MI
Position Summary & Key Areas of Responsibility:
This position is responsible for Field Service activities for retail POS software and related hardware systems at client locations where technical troubleshooting, hardware and software integration/compatibility problem solving and achieving repairs in the field that maximize client customer satisfaction.
o Responsible, under the direction of the Supervisor/Manager, Field Service for assisting retail POS software clients in the following phases of maintenance:
o Perform inspection, software interface, hardware operation, trouble-shooting, adjustment and repair of equipment and software, as installed in customer locations per company and contract protocols.
o Accomplish duties in such a manner as to present an image of professionalism to the customer and their agents that is the embodiment of service assistance in conforming the results to the company's approved modification specifications.
o Have knowledge of and where to obtain any required information in field settings.
o Read software documentation, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
o Test electronics units, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment.
o Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems.
o Assemble, test, and maintain circuitry or electronic components according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronics, using hand and power tools.
o Adjust and replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry and electronics components, using hand tools and soldering iron.
o Write reports and record data on testing techniques, laboratory equipment, and specifications to assist engineers.
o Maintain system logs and manuals to document testing and operation of equipment.
o Provide user applications and engineering support and recommendations for new and existing equipment with regard to installation, upgrades and enhancement.
o Provide customer support and education, working with users to identify needs, determine sources of problems and to provide information on product use.
o Participate in applicable phases of projects involving installation, configuration, testing, and deployment of new PC hardware and software.
o College degree or high school graduate with technical vocational training and knowledge normally achieved through graduation from a university, trade school or military aircraft maintenance program, or an equivalent apprenticeship program.
o Typically 5 to 7 or more years of experience performing external client hardware/software support, which must include 3 years experience with Intel and Microsoft technologies
o Desktop Support, System Administration, System Engineer, or Technology Specialist certification
o Problem-solving skills necessary to resolve normal daily operational challenge
o Training skills necessary to educate clients and employees on the use of hardware
o Thorough knowledge of:
o computer hardware, telecommunications and peripheral equipment
o the Windows operating system environment, routine commands and administration activities
o current IT technologies and supporting best practices for assigned area(s)
o troubleshooting techniques for service disruptions
o Working knowledge of network configuration concepts and protocols for (LAN) and (WAN).
o Ability to read, write and analyze moderately complex technical manuals, operating procedures and communicate effectively by email, reports, or orally, with an audience that may include less technically oriented abilities.
o Effectively manage multiple projects and personnel simultaneously.
o Technical certification in Computer Science or related field such as a CNE, or higher level of competency is desired.
