Position Summary: Within their location, supports the development and maintenance of a Performance Excellence and Competency culture, particularly in the areas of continuous improvement and organizational and personal learning. Leads and supports Manufacturing initiatives that improve organizational performance and effectiveness. Demonstrates an understanding of the Performance Excellence business model and how it is applied in their location. Leads learning and development initiatives and supports plant leadership in implementing company and Manufacturing training procedures and practices.

Serves as the liaison between Corporate Learning and Development resources and the plant. Performs all general training duties, coordinates the plant certification and training programs ensuring all training is documented and tracked. Provides reports to plant and Corporate leadership as required. Collaborates with Performance Excellence/L&D resources across the organization to promote the transfer of knowledge; identify, share and embed best practices; and help each other solve problems.

Leadership (10%):

  • Serves as a member of the local Leadership Team (LT) & facilitates LT meetings as required Champions Performance Excellence business model for the location Collaborates with cross-functional contacts to improve processes and performance

Goal Deployment (10%):

  • Assists Plant Leader in planning and conducting local Goal Deployment meetings and process as noted immediately below
  • Provides necessary administrative support to ensure appropriate Goal Deployment forms and tools are utilized
  • Helps identify and prepare Goal Deployment action plans and Key Performance Indicators
  • Leads review and update of Goal Deployment Action Plans and Key Performance Indicators at least quarterly
  • Ensures company- and local-level Goal Deployment plans are communicated to all plant employees
  • Supports deployment of Individual Development Plans to all plant employees
  • Assists with periodic Performance Excellence Assessments, including preparing documentation, conducting assessments, evaluating results, and developing action plans to address improvement opportunities

Teams (15%)

  • Supports team discipline and value-based behavior expectations for the Harland Clarke Manufacturing Work System
  • Serves as mentor for project team leadership
  • Coaches project team leadership to ensure team disciplines are used correctly
  • Leads effort to embed Performance Excellence concepts and tools in production teams/natural work groups for problem resolution and/or continuous improvement
  • Ensures recognition processes are identified and implemented

Process Improvement Activity (5%)

  • Oversees the administration of the process improvement program
  • Coaches and encourages employee involvement in process improvement activity and assists in implementing improvement ideas

Local Communication (10%)

  • Establishes and implements effective communication tools and processes within the location
  • Ensures location bulletin boards are current
  • Supports evolution of shift Team Business Meetings/Huddles
  • Ensures Meetings are planned and conducted for all shifts
  • Monitors Meeting attendance
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement based on meeting surveys and other feedback and establishes and implements improvements as appropriate

Certification program coordination (20%)

  • Ensures all local certification materials are developed, current in practice and in use
  • Ensures required certifications are in place and in use for each technical skill / position
  • Ensures there are sufficient numbers of trainers and subject matter experts for each certification
  • Identifies and addresses barriers which prevent timely certification
  • Ensures that recertification is accomplished when required
  • Ensures employees delivering certification training/testing are properly informed and using correct documents
  • Liaises with Subject Matter Experts to obtain the content needed to create and update training and certification materials
  • Notifies Corporate Learning and Development of changes needed to training and certification materials held on the Learning Management System

General training (15%)

  • Conducts Orientation training for new employees as needed
  • Conducts or oversees Performance Excellence training and leadership training as necessary
  • Collaborates with local leadership and employees to document and communicate training requirements to Corporate Learning and Development
  • Arranges Train-The-Trainer (T3) courses as needed to ensure employees are educated to train others
  • Coordinates training activities - ensuring leaders/attendees are notified & administrative issues addressed
  • Liaises with instructors about resources needed for training activities
  • Ensures current training materials are available to employees
  • Arranges travel and accommodation for employees who must travel to attend or deliver training (if applicable)

Training documentation and tracking (15%)

  • Ensures HR receives all required certification documentation linked to skill pay
  • Ensures all required documentation for employee training/certification is maintained in the employee’s local Learning and Development record and in the Learning Management System
  • Supports employees in managing their individual learning records in the Learning Management System
  • Produces reports from the Learning Management System as needed to keep leaders informed of training status in the plan
  • Conducts audits of records to ensure training documentation and tracking meets Company requirements

Education & Knowledge:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent Organizational Development background/training experience.
  • Preferred: Performance Excellence Training and/or examiner experience
  • Knowledge of Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence or other quality management systems and principles
  • Understanding of Goal Deployment Process or other strategic planning and deployment methodologies
  • Preferred: Train the Trainer training

Experience / Skills / Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of MS Office software.
  • Experience conducting on-the-job training
  • Experience presenting information to groups in classroom and/or meeting settings
  • Analytical aptitude
  • Experience using problem-solving, analytical, and quality management tools; process management theories and approaches; and quantitative and qualitative measurements and assessments
  • Demonstrable experience in entering and tracking information in a database
  • Proven administrative experience
  • Experience leading/facilitating project teams and meetings
  • Proven organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and manage own workload
