ROLE OBJECTIVE:
The Cloud Engineer is primarily responsible for the public cloud infrastructure operations. The DevOps practice goals are to optimize data workflows, support staff efficiency and automate repeatable processes. Reporting directly to the head of Security and IT, this position is a remote position based in Ontario.
KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES:
Specific areas of responsibility include securely and smoothly promoting software updates into public cloud infrastructure and for designing, administering and maintaining the hosted server and service infrastructure in the public cloud. The ideal candidate will be an experienced cloud and IT engineer with exposure to full stack Java development and CI/CD.

To effectively complete the responsibilities of this position, the candidate must be able to complete the following:
Maintain a highly scalable cloud application architecture.
Monitor and fix the 24x7 availability, capacity and security of cloud Infrastructure
Develop, test and maintain build and deployment scripts
Optimize software update and change workflows: Verify change procedures and identify corrective actions as required
Author and maintain documentation on installations, procedures, and requirements for infrastructure systems.
Collaborate with Development and Security teams
Conduct audits and remediation of cloud infrastructure compliance
Research new cloud and software technologies that will improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Complete self-paced and online professional training and maintain public cloud certifications
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Systems and database administration
Experience writing shell scripts, CloudFormation templates and Lambda functions
Proficiency with internet, cloud and network security concepts
Manage source control systems and change management
Infrastructure as code
Understanding of highly available systems and monitoring of those systems
QUALIFICATIONS:
2+ years Linux Operating system administration
2+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services and infrastructure as Code (e.g. CloudFormation)
1+ year experience engineering for site reliability including performance monitoring and architecting for failover/disaster recovery
Familiar with operation of network-based protocols, synchronous/asynchronous operations, message queues and encryption
Ideally this person has completed a degree/diploma in computer programming
Current AWS certifications or commitment to achieve certification within 3 months of hire
