Job Summary
MycoWorks is seeking a hard working person to support experimental processes within our sterile production line(s) and our fine mycelium finishing lab. This position is responsible for executing R&D SOPs related to fermentation, dyeing, tanning, mechanical testing, and general post-processing of MycoWorks mycelium leather.

Required Qualifications

  • Science or engineering bachelor’s degree from a top rated school

  • Experience on a laboratory-scale production line, R&D specific a major plus

  • A proven history of executing biotech SOPs

  • Demonstrated experience within laboratory work, laboratory protocols, and experimental science

  • At least 5 years of experience working in a clean room

  • Extraordinary communication skills

  • Comfortable with a high level of autonomy

  • Must be able to follow cleanroom and safety practices

  • Must demonstrate a data-driven approach to process development

  • Knowledge of fermentation and/or mycology a plus

  • Proficiency in basic chemistry

  • Thorough understanding of concentrations, DWG, rule of mixtures, etc.

  • Ability to run CNC tools and systems (such as Instron Tensile Tester)

  • Able to work on your feet for 4-5 hours a day, and able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly.

Essential Functions / Standards of Performance

The functions and duties described below may not be the only requirements of the position. It will be necessary to follow other instructions and perform other duties as required by Mycoworks, Inc. team members.

  • Execute experiments in the clean room pertaining to highly repetitive and yet precisely varied SOPs

  • Perform harvest and data processing operations on fermented materials

  • Perform basic wet chemistry processes

  • Perform gravimetric and mechanical property measurements on test materials and samples that you prepare

  • Dye and finish various materials

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures

  • Communicate openly and freely to line leader or supervisor on a timely basis

  • Maintain workplace professionalism

  • Commute to facilities in SF and Emeryville on a daily basis
