Job Description

Position Purpose

The Operations Manager position assists and supports the VP of Operations in directing and managing all plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, quality and other production-related activities. This position directly or indirectly manages all employees of the department(s) and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department(s).

Essential Duties:

  • Provides direction, development and leadership to production & maintenance supervisors and teams.
  • Direct and manage Plant operations. Use production data to continually optimize manufacturing costs and capacity.
  • Provide leadership to ensure safe operations and a strong safety culture.
  • Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
  • Coordinate plant activities with other Departments (Maintenance/Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, etc.) to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Implement cost effective systems for control of operating expenditures.
  • Control and minimize labor overtime, utility costs, and repair expenses.
  • Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.
  • Implement procedures to ensure that Plant equipment and facilities are well maintained.
  • Ensures that new S&OPs are developed when required and keep existing process related documents up to date
  • Develop processes to ensure quality, cost, and efficiency requirements.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Support the conversion of small-scale processes into commercially viable large-scale operations

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and 5+ years Plant Operational Management experience in a food, beverage, or fermentation manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in working with Operations to improve the current process design, increase capacity, improve quality/control, improve functionality, troubleshoot plant deficiencies/bottlenecks, etc. would be plus
  • Experience with sanitary and/or aseptic design is preferred
  • Ability to monitor and improve the efficiency, output, and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements as well as by collecting and interpreting data from other technical and operating personnel is a plus
  • Experience in fermentation and/or food ingredient / finished product operational experience preferred
  • Experience in plant-based protein manufacturing plant design and/or operations is a plus

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has direct supervisory responsibility for Production & Maintenance Supervisor positions.
