Job Description

The support specialist provides end-user technical support for technologies that relate to individual employees job requirements and facilitates increasing the end-users knowledge of technology. Technologies included are PC and Macintosh hardware, software and peripherals, network printers and telephones and telephone systems, as well as production technology such as handheld scanners, thermal printers and automated packaging machines. Maintenance, upgrades, installation and the purchase of new hardware and software are also part of supporting the user community. The support specialist provides support via remote session and telephone for remote and VPN users, email and hosted services and may involve a systems engineer or IT Director  when necessary to provide advanced support. Maintenance, upgrades, installation and the purchase of new hardware, software and consumables for production systems such as development and QA workgroup servers, warehouse management and transportation management systems are additional responsibilities of the support specialist.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Deploy new employee technology that requires minimal ongoing support
  • Provide maintenance and upgrades for employee and departmental production support technologies, including managing system updates
  • Primary support all user facing of hardware and software technologies including printers, wifi connected handhelds, laptops, PCs and related accessories. 
  • Analyze our performance and identify gaps in supporting user facing technology. Annual review of endpoint protection product including testing and narrowing list of possible replacements as needed. Position also includes management of the call center phone and email support system.
  • Develop and maintain a system for recreating key user and production workstations leveraging either a workstation image library or spare drives to minimize disruptions
  • Maintain documentation on laptop, workstations, printers and handheld technology in order to speed troubleshooting or recovery efforts
  • The support specialist position can also allow for growth into managing Cisco switches, Windows and Linux virtual and cloud servers, storage and backup technology, and additional aspects of the Musictoday stack
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers 

Qualifications:

  • Two years of college education or technical school or equivalent work experience supporting users and systems; A+ or computer technician certification or equivalent experience supporting PC’s with knowledge of current and previous Microsoft operating systems a must
  • Experience troubleshooting software and hardware issues in a help desk environment
  • PC knowledge in a Windows and Macintosh environment
  • Ability to analyze and design solutions based on requirements and current environment
  • Must have excellent customer service, communication and troubleshooting skills. 
  • Working knowledge of networking principles; extensive experience with Microsoft desktop applications, email applications, cloud management interfaces and LAN technology.
