Archives Management Intern (Fall 2022)
- Expired: July 21, 2022. Applications are no longer accepted.
Museum of Science, Boston
The Museum of Science Archives Department is responsible for collecting, organizing and preserving the permanent collections of records which documents the Museum's history, activities, staff and the Boston Society of Natural History and to promote and make the collection accessible to staff and researchers. The Museum of Science Archives provides a unique experience for interns as the institution is almost 200 years old, but the Archives have only been a dedicated program since 2017. Defining the scope and goal of the Archives is ongoing work, as the Archives staff builds partnerships and stewards its collections.
Interns with the Archives assist with collection stewardship through inventorying and accessioning projects, digitization, and preservation responsibilities. Interns will work with the Senior Archivist to discuss both short-term and long-term solutions for making the Museum of Science collections more accessible. Interns are instructed in preservation and arrangement best practices, as well as Museum standards of professional behavior and service. This internship provides opportunities for students to build upon new or existing skills and interests as well as introducing them to more hands-on work with historic collections.
