The Opportunity

As Director of Legal, US you will be responsible for founding and scaling the legal function for the US. As such, you are responsible for and a direct high impact into our successful expansion in the US. Your primary stakeholders and partners will be Sales, Finance and our GM of NA.


  • Establish yourself as a leader of the US legal team reporting to the General Counsel in HQ;
  • Have a sophisticated understanding of legal concepts and the ability to apply these in a pragmatic and commercial fashion;
  • Be a key contact for legal issues and risks with direct engagement with the Product, Tech, Business Operations, Sales and Admissions teams in particular;
  • Work closely with our Go To Market (Sales) team to draft and negotiate our B2B customer and partner contracts and in particular negotiate major, complex, non-standard agreements
  • Work closely with General Counsel and VP Finance on corporate transactions, where required advising internal stakeholders (and negotiating with external counterparts where relevant) on fundraising, secondary sales, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and intra-group agreements;
  • Provide frontline support on matters pertaining to US employment laws as they relate to clients' apprentices and Multiverse employees;
  • Proactively identify risks to our business and solutions to eliminate or mitigate them
  • Understand product, data security, and privacy process issues to be able to direct relevant teams during negotiations, and in many other contexts;
  • Provide legal support for ad-hoc projects across a range of business functions (e.g. Finance, HR, Operations, Product, Risk & Compliance);
  • Help set up agile risk-based processes and procedures; and
  • Contribute towards Multiverse's legal resources and business and training programs and assist with standardization of documentation across jurisdictions.

About you:
  • 6 years' PQE+, experience in-house or at a top law firm (with secondment experience), with a focus on commercial and corporate matters;
  • Strong commercial acumen; able to take a pragmatic approach to legal risk and advise the business accordingly. Demonstrable experience of providing end-to-end B2B and commercial contractual support;
  • Demonstrable experience of managing complex corporate transactions;
  • Experience building risk management processes and procedures from the ground up
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong team player and can-do approach; no job is too big or too small;
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic business; and
  • Qualified to practice law in the US
  • You align closely with our values and can share examples of how you have demonstrated them.
  • A plus, prior in-house experience within a high-growth technology company ; and
  • Experience working on multi-jurisdictional (US/UK) matter
